  • Please Do What Is Right for the Racehorse
WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 2, 2020 OP/ED: PLEASE DO WHAT 21-DAY VET'S LIST STINT RECOMMENDED FOR CLENBUTEROL IN KY IS RIGHT FOR THE by T. D. Thornton The Kentucky Equine Drug Research Council (EDRC), which RACEHORSE serves as an advisory board to the Kentucky Horse Racing Commission (KHRC), advanced a Dec. 1 recommendation to that full board that would require any horse who receives clenbuterol to be restricted via the veterinarian's list for 21 days and then test clear of that substance prior to being removed from the list and allowed to compete. Kentucky's current clenbuterol regulation requires a prescription that must be filed with the KHRC within 24 hours of dispensing the drug and a withdrawal time of 14 days, according to Bruce Howard, DVM, who serves as the equine medical director for the KHRC. SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 23, 2019 BRIDGING THE GAP: WOW... CHARLES TOWN FILLY IS THE REAL DEAL by Bill Finley KARAKONTIE AND THE Trainer Javier Contreras has been around since 1983, wins his fair share of races at Charles Town and dreams small. Trainers TURF TRIPLE like Contreras don't think about winning graded stakes races. They want to make some money, pay the bills and prove that they can be a success at racing's blue-collar level. But Contreras's life began to change when he purchased a West Virginia-bred horse named Late Night Pow Wow (Fiber Sonde) privately from breeder John McKee for an undisclosed fee. Fiber Sonde stands for $1,000 and the mare, Holy Pow Wow, raced four times and lost those races by a combined margin of 66 3/4 lengths. Once he started training her, Contreras could tell right away that Late Night Pow Wow had some quality, so he wasn't surprised when she broke her maiden at Charles Town on Sept. 17, 2017 by 6 1/2 lengths. • TEPIN to BE OFFERED at FASIG NOVEMBER Some Knockbacks but Saturday=S G1 QIPCO Irish Champion S
SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 9, 2017 OCALA ALSO BRACING FOR IRMA=S PUNCH TEPIN TO BE OFFERED By Bill Finley AT FASIG NOVEMBER While Hurricane Irma is expected to do its worst damage in Florida in the Miami and Dade County areas, it appears that Ocala, located in Marion County, is not going to be spared. The latest forecasts are calling for Irma to hit the Ocala area early Monday and to bring with it winds of up to 100 miles per hour. That has farm owners and other horsemen, many of whom have taken in horses fleeing Gulfstream, busily preparing to do everything they can to keep their horses, employees and property as safe as possible. AOur barns are really strong structurally,@ said Glen Hill Farm President and CEO Craig Bernick. AWe have had hurricanes where we=ve lost power for a couple of weeks. We have generators and we have wells on the farm. We can feed the horses and take care of them.
