We are delighted to bring the Games back to Sheffield for a second consecutive year and we’d like to welcome both new and returning schools to this wonderful city. 23 teams from schools in 13 different countries have come together for three days of competitive sports - that’s 400 students who have travelled here to experience the glory of the COBIS Games. You all have one special thing in common - you are members of the ever- growing COBIS family! With that in mind, we want you to enjoy your time in the UK by taking in your new surroundings and the fabulous sporting facilities here in Sheffield, by meeting new friends and by sharing your experiences as a student at a high-quality British international school. We’d also like to welcome the dedicated and supportive coaches, parents and family members who have arrived here from Africa, Asia, Europe and the Middle East to cheer on the young athletes. Your enthusiasm for this event is recognised and appreciated and we thank you for all your hard work in developing and coaching the students who will participate in this global event. COBIS is committed to encouraging and cultivating the incredible student talent found in our schools around the globe, through a range of exciting competitions, activities and events beyond the classroom. I appreciate many of you have come from different corners of the globe but hope your travel experience was pleasant and you are now looking forward to a weekend of events that will bring lots of excitement. During the weekend of competition Sheffield will see the talents of the young sports people within the COBIS family compete across three sports within three excellent venues across the city. A lot of hard work goes on behind the scenes from many organisations. So I’d like to take this opportunity to thank the staff at the Event Teams and Marketing Sheffield from Sheffield City Council, City of Sheffield Swim Squad, City of Sheffield and Dearne Athletics Club and Onside Sports. Plus special thanks must also go to the ever present band of officials & volunteers who constantly give up their precious time to support.     SHEFFIELD CITY TRUST Management Report relating to, and deemed to be part of, the annual financial report of Sheffield City Trust (the “charity”) for the year ended 31 March 2017 REPORT The trustees, who act as directors for the purpose of company law, present their management report for the period ended 31 March 2017. Purpose of the charity The objects of the charity are as detailed in the charity’s governing document, its Memorandum of Association. 1 An object of the charity is to promote the benefit of the inhabitants of South Yorkshire and surrounding counties by the provision of facilities for recreation and leisure time occupation in the interest of social welfare. The charity has continued in its policies of providing recreational and other leisure facilities of a high standard and as economically as possible. The charity seeks to encourage high levels of use by the community with policies that encourage wide public access. There has been no material change in these policies over the relevant period. 2 A further object of the charity is to promote and preserve good physical and mental health. The objective is pursued by encouraging high levels of use of recreational and leisure facilities by the community.     Staff 'face misery’ as Sheffield City Trust plan to axe hundreds more jobs 01 Sep 2020 Union says lowest-paid staff shoulder the biggest burden of ‘unfair’ proposals after 79 redundancies at Sheffield Arena and Sheffield City Hall GMB union says a further 200 jobs are at risk at Sheffield City Trust under unfair proposals which have already seen 79 redundancy formal notices issued in the city. Redundancy notices have already been issued across the Trust - including 38 at Sheffield Arena and 41 at Sheffield City Hall. Further plans see more than 200 jobs at risk at sports and leisure venues including Ponds Forge, Ice Sheffield and leisure centres across the city. GMB said it was unfair that the lowest-paid staff were being targeted for redundancy. Only one senior Head of Service post has been subject to “at risk” status. Those staff put on notice could be put at a disadvantage for any potential redeployment across the business after the option to consult with unions across all affected workplaces was not taken up by the Trust, the union warned, adding to calls to extend the consultation period. Sheffield City Trust had informed GMB that they do not have any money in reserves, despite Sheffield City Council making a £15m subsidy available to the Trust just last month. GMB will now campaign along with Sheffield Trades Council and community groups to protect jobs and ensure that the venues open safely for the public to use. Lee Parkinson, GMB Organiser said: “The business model used by Sheffield City Trust has failed our members and the residents of Sheffield.
