C’est pour mettre en chanson une BD du dessinateur belge Walthéry que Renaud se rend la première fois chez ICP, dans les années 90. « C’était un CD-BD, j’y interprétais un titre, le projet était très original », se souvient l’artiste. « J’ai été séduit par le studio. J’ai donc eu envie d’y retourner pour y faire des albums complets. » Pour Renaud, ICP est une référence. « D’abord, pour les compétences exceptionnelles des ingénieurs du son et des musiciens. Ils sont d’une efficacité redoutable, c’est très impressionnant. Quant à John Hastry, il est terriblement paternel. C’est un véritable ange gardien. Professionnel jusqu’au bout des ongles, généreux, enthousiaste, il s’occupe des artistes comme si nous étions ses propres enfants. -

Far from celebrating the role of governments, the organization said it would be celebrating the work of human rights defenders around the world who continue to be persecuted for trying to bring about the better world promised by governments in 1948. “Today should be a day of shame for many governments,” said Pierre Sané, Secretary General of Amnesty International. “A sense of shame that 50 years on from the spirit of idealism and commitment to a better world which framed the adoption of the UDHR, poverty affects hundreds of millions while the torture, “disappearances”, unfair trials and unlawful killings continue.” “While many leaders will mark today’s historic occasion by reiterating their commitment to protecting human rights, Amnesty International will hold up a mirror to highlight just how far reality is from the world envisaged in the UDHR.” “Behind the rhetoric is the reality. Amnesty International’s 1998 Annual Report documents the facts. At least 1.3 billion people live on less than $1 a day, 117 governments torture their citizens; at least 55 governments unlawfully kill their citizens; at least 87 governments jail prisoners of conscience; at least 31 governments make their citizens “disappear”; and at least 40 governments execute their citizens.” Mr Sané’s comments were made during the first ever world summit of human rights defenders, organized to mark the anniversary and taking place in the Palais de Chaillot in Paris, the location of the UDHR’s adoption by the United Nations in 1948. -

An Appraisal of the State of Professional Songwriting
AN APPRAISAL OF THE STATE OF PROFESSIONAL SONGWRITING ON THE NIGERIAN MUSIC INDUSTRY CHAPTER ONE INTRODUCTION 1.0 Introduction Nelson (2010), making reference to a Music quote by Henry Giles, mentioned that “A song will outlive all sermons in the memory”. “Every song is like a painting”, Dale (2013) and every picture tells a story. Also, “Great music is that which penetrates the ear with facility and leaves the memory with difficulty because Magical music never leaves the memory”, Beecham (2015). Songwriting may mean different things to different songwriters and at different times. Songwriting, like any other creative endeavor, can be meaningful in a variety of ways. So while there are some objective ways to determine “good” or “bad” when it comes to songwriting, it is also a creative space open to a myriad of options. “A Creative mind has the ability to make discoveries and create innovations”, Rivera, (2014). 1.1 Background to the Study The American Heritage Dictionary of English language, 5thEdition, (2013) defines a songwriter as one who writes lyrics or tunes (or both). They are often referred to as ballad makers, tunesmiths, composers - someone who writes the lyrics and usually the Music of Songs. To some extent a songwriter is much like a storyteller and the listeners are his captive audience. Most songs revolve around a central theme such as love, friendship, struggle, triumph, or other forms of experiences, etc. Every song tells a different story while each song usually contains an atom or 1 atoms of uniqueness which makes them differ from the works of other composers and songwriters. -
