    MEDIA CLIPS – July 18, 2017 Rox seek 3rd straight win in Senzatela's return By Max Gelman / MLB.com | 9:36 AM ET Antonio Senzatela's demotion to Triple-A Albuquerque was short-lived, as the young right-hander will make his return for the Rockies on Tuesday to start against the Padres and Dinelson Lamet. Colorado has won back-to-back games for the first time since a six-game streak from June 14-20. Senzatela will be making his first MLB start since June 22 when he gave up nine runs in five innings to the D-backs. He made two relief appearances following that outing and was then optioned to Albuquerque for a start. He threw 3 1/3 innings for the Isotopes on July 13 and gave up one run on four hits. While in the bullpen, Senzatela's fastball velocity jumped. His fastball averaged 94 mph in June, but in relief, it averaged 95.3 mph. "I got to see the game from a different view," Senzatela said of his relief outings. "It taught me to go in, be more aggressive and finish the hitter real quick. I worked quick, and I felt good. I looked to get out there hitter in two or three pitches -- dominate." For the Padres, Lamet will make his first career start against the Rockies. The young righty has a 5.93 ERA in 41 innings. 1 It's been all or nothing for Lamet through his first eight big league starts. The rookie has a legit three-pitch mix, and all three project as Major League-caliber out pitches.

UNI BASEBALL CELEBRATES 100 YEARS OF WINNING Dating back to 1893, no University of Northern Iowa athletic team has won more games than the Panther baseball program. This season, UNI baseball opens its lOOth season with 952 wins all-time. (No baseball team was fielded in 1903-04, 1909-10 and 1943-45.) Originally begun when the school was known as Iowa State Normal School, the baseball team has represented the school when it was also known as Iowa State Teachers College and the State College of Iowa before assuming its present title in 1967. Starting in the years with Captain Avery as coach of the first two squads, the Panthers have built a program that thrives on hard­ working young men dedicated to being the best they can be on the diamond and in the classroom. Last year was no exception, as five Panthers; Ryan McGuire, Kevin Briggeman, Greg Woodin, Scott Sobkowiak and Aaron Houdeshell were named academic all-MVC by the sports information directors of the league.

When Tim Wakefield recorded his 2,000th career strikeout with the Red Sox in yesterday‘s 12-8 victory over the Seattle Mariners, fanning Mike Carp on a foul tip to end the sixth inning, he said he was unaware of the significance. It wasn‘t until catcher Jarrod Saltalamacchia approached Wakefield to congratulate him that the 44-year- old knuckleballer fully realized the magnitude of the milestone. ―Salty was walking towards me and I was like, ‗What‘s going on?‘ ‘‘ Wakefield said. ―And he said, ‗Congratulations on 2,000 strikeouts.‘ ‘‘ A message on the video board in center field touted Wakefield‘s achievement, triggering a thunderous ovation from the Fenway Park crowd of 37,650. ―Not that guys watch their stats, but that‘s a pretty big number, so I assumed he knew he was getting close,‘‘ Saltalamacchia said. ―When I told him, he was like, ‗Congratulations for what?‘ and I was like, ‗Did I get this wrong?‘ I wanted to make sure. I looked at the board and it said 2,000. He looked up and saw it and just started smiling.‘‘ Saltalamacchia embraced Wakefield, handed him the ball, and escorted him toward the dugout, where Wakefield doffed his cap to the crowd before descending the steps. ―It was a pretty cool ovation and a pretty cool day for me,‘‘ said Wakefield (6-3, 5.15 ERA), who joined Roger Clemens (2,590) as the only other pitcher in club history to record 2,000 strikeouts.
