For decades it has been graduating hundreds of outstanding lawyers who have gone on to become not only great leaders in the legal profession, but great leaders in government and business. Just in the State of Indiana, over half the licensed lawyers are our graduates, as are over 40% of the judges, at least 78 corporate or non-profit CEOs, and numerous legislators and government officials. Yet despite the enormous contributions that the law school and its alumni make to our state and nation, for too long it has operated largely unrecognized and often underappreciated. If the law school is to receive the recognition and support essential to its ability to continue being the great asset it has always been to Indiana and beyond, it must not be the best kept secret in American legal education. It is time that the school not only do an outstanding job of attracting and educating top legal talent, but that it also do an outstanding job of letting the world know it. In the past couple of years, we have undertaken to raise the profile and reputation of the law school in various ways. One way has been to bring to the school prominent speakers and events that will make Hoosiers and others around the country take notice of the quality and respect this school has.     us EPA RECORDS CENTER REGION 5 491883 U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Regions Community Involvement Plan Jacobsvilie Neighborhood Soil Contamination Site Vanderburgh County, Indiana August 2005 ^EPA Introduction This Community Involvement Plan for the Jacobsville Neighborhood Soil Contamination site in Evansville, Indiana, was prepared by U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to provide background information on the site and to determine activities EPA will perform to keep the public and local officials informed about progress at the site and to encourage community involvement during the site cleanup. This Community Involvement Plan also discusses the concerns of nearby residerits regarding the site and ways for EPA to address them. The information in this plan is based primarily on discussions with residents and local officials that occurred June 28-29, 2005. Site Description Location and Site Features The Jacobsville Neighborhood Soil Contamination site is located in Evansville in a residential area that also includes Deaconess Hospital, Delaware Elementary School, various churches, and several small businesses. The site was defined by the Indiana Department of Environmental Management as consisting of 250 acres or 45 city blocks of the Jacobsville neighborhood, the area north of the Lloyd Expressway between Main and Fulton. About 500 people live in this affected area, which has high levels of lead in the soil. The boundaries of the site could change as EPA continues to do more testing. Site Background History and Cleanup Progress Contamination at Jacobsville was discovered in 2000 during testing of dirt from area yards that was collected as part of a reassessment of the Evansville Plating Works, an abandoned electroplating and metal refinishing facility.

McKinney School of Law Wrongful Conviction Clinic Students Win Release for Client Alumni Choose Careers in Health Law Student Organizes Network Fair Message from the Dean As I read the stories in this issue of this edition of The McKinney Lawyer, I am struck by the contributions that our students, faculty, and alumni make in the community. In this issue, for example, you will read about Professor Fran Watson and her stu- dents, who worked tirelessly to gain freedom for Darryl Pinkins, who spent nearly 25 years in prison, wrongly convicted of a crime he did not commit. In addition, you will learn about our alumni working in the Indiana Disability Rights office, where six of the seven attorneys are McKinney Law graduates. These attorneys focus on ensuring that the rights of individuals with disabilities are fully protected. The issue also includes a feature on a 2016 graduate, Brittany Glaze, who earned a joint degree (J.D. and Master of Social Work) through our school and the IU School of Social Work. During the course of her studies, Brittany determined that there was a need for more communication among public interest service providers in the com- munity—so, she decided to do something about it. Brittany created a “Network Fair for Service Providers,” where organizations and agencies such as the Marion County Pub- lic Defender Agency, Child Advocates, Inc., and Indiana Legal Services, just to name a few, could share information with one another, as well as with students and attorneys who work in public interest law.
