A software upgrade involves obtaining a new version of the CFEngine software from soft- ware.CFEngine.com and installing it in place of the old. When software is updated, the previous version of the software is retained. From version 1.1 of CFEngine Nova, CFEngine is fully capable of managing its own updates ¨ and service restarts with a minimum of manual work on the policy server. Existing users of version 1.0 will need to upgrade the software manually on the affected sys- tems, or use the existing CFEngine to assist in the manual process. Please contact CFEngine Professional Services for for assistance (see Appendix). © Why do I need to upgrade? Bug fixes and new features are included in new software releases. To gain access to these fixes, you need to upgrade the software. Changes to the standard Community Open Promise Body Library might make use of new features, so upgrading brings you access to these new methods. How does upgrading work? CFEngine packages its software in operating sytsem compatible package formats (RPM, PKG, MSI, etc). -

Release Notes: NovaBACKUP 17.5 NovaBACKUP 17.5.1423 (February, 2016) Backup for the Rest of Us What’s new in NovaBACKUP 17.5 ? • New Features – NovaBACKUP o Enhanced creation of Image Backup jobs such that incremental and differential jobs can be flexibly defined and scheduled before the first full backup job has run. o Enhanced Image backups (a.k.a. disaster recovery) now conveniently assignable to NAS device destinations o Backup client can use either .NET Frameworks versions 3.5 or 4.X, whichever is already installed, thus reducing the need for setup to install an alternate version. o Improved Error Handling: More information provided, and reduced “false negatives“ create an improved user experience. • Fixed issues / bugs (17.5.1423) o Demote some error messages to informational, and remove several "false negatives" altogether. Specifically: DR retention jobs are not classified as failed if a log file cannot be removed, the cause of syslog.txt rename errors has been fixed, and snapcmd no longer logs an error caused by trying to access a non-existent message file. o Virtual Dashboard fixed to not allow the selection of HyperV VM's running on Windows 10 since this is not a supported configuration. o Clicking on an empty folder in the restore view throws an error. o GUI may crash if a large number of job logs are retained on the Logs tab. o When double-byte characters are entered into the “Explanation” portion of the scheduled setting for holidays and then saved, the texts come up garbled. o When attempting to backup/copy to a network path with double-byte characters in the path, the process fails. -

Security kernels, such as separation kernels, enable constructing high-assurance mixed-criticality execution platforms. They reduce the soft- ware portion of the system’s trusted computing base to a thin layer, which enforces isolation between low- and high-criticality components. The reduced trusted computing base minimizes the system attack surface and facilitates the use of formal methods to ensure functional correctness and security of the kernel. In this thesis, we explore various aspects of building a provably secure separation kernel using virtualization technology. In particular, we examine techniques related to the appropriate management of the memory subsystem. Once these techniques were implemented and functionally verified, they pro- vide reliable a foundation for application scenarios that require strong guar- antees of isolation and facilitate formal reasoning about the system’s overall security. We show how the memory management subsystem can be virtualized to enforce isolation of system components.
