" # $ % & 0 comments More than a year after first surveying the destructive Kilauea volcano in Hawaii, Nasa has sent its data-collecting drone UAVSAR back (http://www.jpl.nasa.gov/news/news.cfm? KONA HELICOPTER release=2011-105) to the Big Island to assess how it shaped ADVENTURE and shifted the Earth's surface. In January 2010, researchers at Nasa's Jet Propulsion Laboratory (http://www.wired.co.uk/news/archive/2010- 10/22/mars-rover-curiosity-cam) in California sent the Uninhabited Aerial Vehicle Synthetic ApertureU Radar aircraft over the volcano every day for a week. TheNASA radar,Earth Observatory which is nestled in a pod beneath the Gulfstream-III aircraft's belly, sends pulses of microwave energy at the ground to measure subtle deformations in Earth's surface. A lot has happened to the area in that time. In November 2010 and again in January 2011, homes near the Kalapana Gardens were engulfed in lava flows. Throughout March 2011, an explosive fissure eruption (http://www.wired.co.uk/news/archive/2010-04/16/icelandic- volcano%E2%80%99s-ash-plume-as-seen-from-space) occurred along the east rift zone, spitting out molten rocks and blanketing the landscape with lava. Nasa will now repeat its previous journey, mimicking the 2010 flight paths to an accuracy of five metres. "The April 2011 UAVSAR flights will capture the March 2011 fissure eruption surface displacements at high resolution and from multiple viewing directions, giving us an improved resolution of the magma (http://www.wired.co.uk/news/archive/2011-03/14/earth-core-fluctuations) injected into the east rift zone that caused the eruption," said JPL research scientist Paul Lundgren. By comparing the images taken more than a year apart, volcanologists at Nasa can create interferograms to reveal exactly how the Earth's surface changed, giving fresh insight into the volcano's power. The nine-day research flight started on 3 April. The agency has previously used the UAVSAR technology to measure the temperate ice caps of Iceland (http://www.spaceref.com/news/viewsr.html?pid=31642) and the boreal forests (http://www.flickr.com/photos/nasa-jpl/3878819639/) of Canada in 2009, and the Deepwater Horizon oil spill READ NEXT (http://www.nasa.gov/topics/earth/features/oilspill/pia13233.html) and the Haiti earthquakes (http://www.jpl.nasa.gov/news/news.cfm?release=2010-037) in 2010.(/news/archive/2015-07/08/wired-awake-8- WIRED AWAKE july) ! Indeed, the first feature length talking film, The Jazz Singer (Crosland 1927), starred Al Jolson as Jakie Rabinowitz, a young man struggling to reconcile his Jewish identity to his success at performing in blackface to white audiences. Since then, there has been an endless stream of movies about music. Some are explicitly biographical, with actors cast as iconic musicians: e.g., The Glenn Miller Story (Mann 1954), The Buddy Holly Story (Rash 1978), Ray (Hackford 2004), Walk the Line (Mangold 2005) and Bohemian Rhapsody (Singer 2018).

  • Mockumentary Film Program.Pdf
History of the Mockumentary Film Wednesday January 1, 2020 – Friday January 10, 2020 Vicki Napolitano MALS Capstone Project About the Film Series From there start, documentary films have attempted to capture various aspects of real life, primarily for the purpose of maintaining a historical record of noteworthy people, places, and events. Today, documentaries explore multiple aspects of everyday life. They often expose uncomfortable truths in an effort to move society forward and improve human condition. One of the sub-genres of documentary filmmaking is the mockumentary. A mockumentary takes the form of a documentary but the people and events depicted are fictional and treated satirically. Through the lens of parody, filmmakers can examine and comment on current events and issues within our everyday society. The Mock Doc film series explores the history of the mockumentary film and how it’s developed throughout film history. The goal of the mockumentary is not to enhance credibility but to explicitly question the believability of what the audience is witnessing. While many early documentary films used fakery to add to the realism the directors were trying to portray, mockumentaries are designed to amuse or look as realistic as possible - both to trick the audience and to challenge them to question what they accept as truth. The series will demonstrate that several films that are labeled as traditional documentaries are actually mockumentaries and how even fiction films can come across to audiences as real life. Nanook of the North (1922) Directed by Robert Flaherty Wednesday January 1, 2020 @ 6PM Considered by many as the first feature-length documentary, director Robert Flaherty captures the life of an Inuit man named Nanook, and the struggles his family face surviving the difficult conditions of the Canadian Artic.

While the operational impacts to stations and producers are expected to be minimal, it is important that PRSS members be aware of what is happening. Two primary elements of this operation involve an extended transition of ContentDepot to the BuNOC and the temporary use of an alternative telephone number for the PRSS Help Desk. Both of these are detailed below. Transition to the BuNOC NPR Distribution is tentatively planning to switch ContentDepot from the primary NOC to the BuNOC on Wednesday, October 10, 2018, at 9:59 pm ET. From this point, ContentDepot will continue to run from the BuNOC for an extended period. The exact length of time ContentDepot will run out of the BuNOC is still to be determined, but we anticipate duration of approximately one week. The only noticeable effect for users will be that access to ContentDepot will be restricted for approximately one minute when we make the switch to St. Paul at 9:59 pm ET on Wednesday, October 10. Apart from that, ContentDepot will run fully functional from the BuNOC, and all users will be able to access and use the portal in the usual way with the following link: https://contentdepot.prss.org/portalui/app/#!login As soon as the NPR Distribution team has confirmed when ContentDepot will be transitioned back to the primary NOC in Washington, it will be communicated to the system.

This thesis examines if and how the Internet viewers of Saturday Night Live skits were influenced by the video skits. The viewers’ online comments were read, categorized and analyzed for content to explore and discuss how the viewers “read” the text of the online video skits. Each video in which candidates John McCain, Sarah Palin, Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama appeared is summarized and analyzed through viewers’ comments. A sample of skits including actors’ portrayals of McCain, Palin, Clinton, Obama and Joe Biden is also summarized and analyzed to find and discuss how the viewers’ perceptions were influenced by the portrayals. • Columbia Journalism Review
Columbia Journalism Review Profile — January / February 2008 The Redemption of Chris Rose: Like his city and his newspaper, a survivor By Barry Yeoman On a breezy Sunday morning in October 2006, residents of New Orleans—displaced, exhausted, wondering if they would live to see their city’s resurrection—woke to one of the most audacious acts of mass psychotherapy ever performed by an American newspaper. It took place under an unlikely byline. Chris Rose, a columnist for the daily Times-Picayune, was once known primarily for reporting on the bad behavior of visiting celebrities. Hurricane Katrina changed that: it transformed Rose into a plaintive voice for a struggling city. His columns detailed the emotional toll of living amid still-flatted houses and daily reminders of the 1,500 who died in the storm’s aftermath. And then, more than a year after the breached levees plunged whole districts underwater, Rose was sharing with readers the story of his own descent. Rose’s column was promoted on page one and dominated the paper’s Living section: I should make a confession. For all of my adult life, when I gave it thought—which wasn’t very often—I regarded the concepts of depression and anxiety as pretty much a load of hooey. I thought anti-depressants were for desperate housewives and fragile poets. I no longer feel that way. Not since I fell down the rabbit hole myself and enough hands reached down to pull me out. One of those hands belonged to a psychiatrist holding a prescription for anti-depressants.
