Celebrating sport and physical activity Active Gloucestershire hosted a gala awards evening at Town Hall, on 27 June, to recognise some of the most committed young people involved in school sport and the Record-breaking School Games! excellent work done by schools to help A record 103 schools and 1100 pupils competed in this year’s students be physically active, both in school and throughout their lives. Gloucestershire School Summer Games, the county’s largest school sports event, held on 15 and 16 June and led by physical activity charity, Active Gloucestershire. Inspired by local sports stars, Paralympian Jack Rutter and National Hunt Jockey, Carl Llewellyn, pupils from 75 primary schools, 23 secondary schools and five special schools fought to be county champions in eleven different sports, including archery, mountain biking, softball, inclusive cricket, Panathlon, Quadkids and rounders.

2017 Roll of Honour In another record, more pupils than ever represented their school in a Whole School Improvement Infants’ School sports event for the first time, with 160 participating in the Games’ St James’ CoE Primary School Change4Life Event. Active Gloucestershire’s Chief Executive, Deborah Gloucestershire Healthy Living and Learning Potts, declared the Games, “an absolute inspiration”, adding: “our aim is Exemplary Practice Award Gloucester Hospital Education Service to give the widest possible range of students a positive experience of sport

Gloucestershire Daily Mile Many congratulations to the many schools and thousands of pupils who’ve been taking part in The Daily Mile this term. You know how much walking, jogging or running for 15 minutes each day outside in the fresh air with friends, as part of the school day, improves children’s health and wellbeing and helps them socialise in their school community.
