In order to install and manage mobile-ready content on a supported BlackBerry® smartphone device, please confirm you have the following before installing your CellCast Widget: • BlackBerry Smartphone - A media-enabled RIM device including any of the following: BlackBerry® World Phone™/8800 Series, BlackBerry® Pearl™/8100 Series, BlackBerry® Curve™/8300 Series, BlackBerry® Curve/8900 Series, BlackBerry® Bold/9000 Series, BlackBerry® Storm & Storm2/95xx Series (requires alternative build), BlackBerry® Tour™/9600 Series, and BlackBerry® Bold/9700 Series smartphones equipped/enabled with the specifications shown below. • An installed microSD card – we strongly recommend selecting a 2GB or larger microSD card. If you don’t already have a microSD card, you can obtain one at virtually any wireless phone store or electronics retailer. We recommend checking pricing from an online retailer such as Amazon.com where you can purchase a high capacity card for under US$25. Any content stored in device memory or your microSD card can be automatically encrypted and secured against theft or forwarding using standard BBOS features. • BlackBerry Device Software 4.2.2 or higher. To check what version you have, select Options from the device’s main menu, and then select About from the options list. Both the device name and version will be displayed. Select advanced media capture and social networking features may require newer BlackBerry Device Software and may not be supported on older BlackBerry wireless handhelds. • Mobile Network or Wi-Fi access – to sync media to your device, you must have mobile data network coverage, BES connection (for enterprise customers) or a Wi-Fi-enabled smartphone with access to an active Wi-Fi network. However, once media is synced and downloaded, it resides on your device and can be played back at any time regardless of network or Wi-Fi availability. Note: If your BlackBerry is connected to a corporate network via a BES, you may need to disable SSL support if your corporate BES doesn’t have an SSL certificate to talk to the public Internet – see section XX of this document for more information. Install the microSD Card in Your BlackBerry Smartphone (HIGHLY RECOMMENDED). To do this, turn the smartphone off, install the microSD card, and power the device back on. This release of the CellCast Widget permits application installation and content storage on local BlackBerry device storage but we highly recommend utilizing expansion memory if permitted by your organization’s IT/Information Security team. 2. Activate (or Create) your CellCast Account. New users will receive a New CellCast Account Instructions email containing your account credentials and access information; this email will either come from your CellCast Administrator or is sent to you directly as a result of you completing the CellCast Self-Registration web form provided to you. After installing the CellCast Widget on your BlackBerry, you’ll need to input your verified credentials to activate your CellCast account and enable synchronization from your BlackBerry smartphone to the CellCast Server. 3. Accessing CellCast Widget Software. Using your BlackBerry smartphone, open the main Browser from the device menu - this browser must be used for the installation. Press the smartphone Menu key and select “Go To”. Also applying to your first time installing the CellCast Widget, you will be prompted to accept application-specific security permissions requesting you grant permission for the CellCast Widget to access the CellCast Server (and your microSD card if installed) using on-device connections and services. NOTE: for RIM-specific reasons, you’ll likely be asked to “Allow”/accept these permissions TWICE as well! Each time you’re presented with the Permissions screen, set the value for each displayed option to “Allow” and then press the BlackBerry Menu Key and select “Save” to commit your updates. 9. Account Settings. Next, you’ll need to update your Account Settings as supplied in your Welcome email. All learning assignments and record keeping are directly associated with a specific user account in the CellCast database. Accordingly, each person must update their account settings with their personalized access credentials in order to begin interacting with the CellCast Server. At the very highest level, you’ll need to add/confirm your OnPoint Server address, Username and Password then save these parameters. To access any of these account parameters again in the future, click the Menu key on your BlackBerry (to the left of your trackball) and select/click the Account Settings option. Click the BlackBerry Menu key to “Save” your changes. YOUR CREDENTIALS SHOULD BE SET AS FOLLOWS: o Server = content.mlearning.com o User Name = As provided/generally: firstname.lastname (e.g., “john.smith” = “John Smith”) or email address if you used a self-registration web page to create your CellCast account. o Password = As provided/generally: 12345 or as you defined it during self registration (your actual password will not be displayed after you enter it; you’ll only see a series of “*” characters). o Select Language = Ignore this setting unless you’ve been instructed otherwise! o Update Interval (seconds) = Ignore this setting! If you’re not seeing any sync activity, you’ll need to check/update your “Connection Settings” by clicking the “Menu” key on your BlackBerry, then selecting the “Advanced Settings” option, then scrolling down the list of displayed options to the “Connections Settings” section as shown below. For most users (AT&T, Sprint & US Cellular in United States, Rogers, Telus & Bell Canada in Canada, Optus, Telstra& Vodafone in Australia, etc.), the defaulted “Automatically Select Connection” option should work fine; if not, cycle through the other logical options presented, then save your selection and determine if that option works by returning to the CellCast Main Menu and viewing whether or not you see your Assignments counter is incrementing upward.
