  • Advocate for Redistricting Reform
Advocate for Redistricting Reform Baltimore City LWV and Baltimore County LWV are teaming up to advocate for redistricting reform, one of the State League’s top priorities. If you received this email, it is because your State Senator is a member of the Senate Education, Health and Environmental Affairs Committee OR your State Delegate is a member of the House Rules and Executive Nominations Committee. We are asking you to reach out to your senator or delegate about two bills. The Senate EHEA committee has already held a hearing (2/28) on SB 90 Elections - Legislative and Congressional Redistricting and Apportionment - Commission and Process and SB 110 -Congressional Districts - Standards. We are concerned about these bills not being passed out of Committee, so we are asking that you call or email your representative on the Senate EHEA committee as soon as possible to urge them to vote favorably on these bills to move them out of Committee. The House Rules and Executive Nominations Committee will be holding a hearing on March 4 on the cross-filed HB 43 Elections - Legislative and Congressional Redistricting and Apportionment - Commission and Process and HB 463 - Congressional Districts Standards (Anti-Gerrymandering of Maryland's Congressional Districts). Please call or email your representative that Committee with the same message – urge them to vote these bills out of Committee. KaTherine Klausmeier The Overlea community hosts the commemorative march Saturday, February 23, 2013 to celebrate the 100th Anniversary of the Suffrage March of 1913. The event honors the women who marched and fought for voting rights; their hard work culminating in 1920 when the nineteenth amendment was ratified, giving women the right to vote. In 1913, as a group of suffragists marched from New York City to Washington, D.C., they stopped in Overlea before entering Baltimore City. The 2013 Commem- orative March begins at the Overlea Fullerton Community Center on Belair Road, it spans three blocks and ends at the Natural History Society of Maryland. The venue is the site of Overlea’s original town hall and where the 1913 suffrag- ettes spoke to the community. Yellow National and local women’s organizations, along with community ad- Commemorative vocates, leaders and elected officials join the march. Honorary Chair- Sash worn by person is State Senator Katherine Klausmeier. She is joined by other the Marchers at Overlea, Maryland – leaders of the community in welcoming the marchers. February 23, 2013. Marchers wear yellow shoulder to hip sashes as the marchers did in 1913.
