Originally through FCSS, this program is now managed by the Chestermere Food Bank. Changes to pre-order instructions, and details about payment and pick- up are on the website. • Hampers: Perishable and non-perishable foods to an average of eight families per week. By appointment only. Hampers are designed to see a family through 2-3 weeks. Clients can access this program six times per year. Referrals are made through the Community Resource Centre. • Meals on Wheels: Prepared by Meals on Wheels Calgary, and delivered by Chestermere Food Bank volunteers. All are heart healthy and diabetic friendly. Order on Friday for delivery on Wednesday. Meals cost $5.75 and must be paid by cash or cheque on delivery. No referral is needed to sign up. Chestermere Seniors' Housing Recent action surrounding seniors’ housing includes: Housing Survey 2018, Mayor’s Round Table and Senior’s Task Force Final Report. As well, the Action Group for Aging in Place (AGAP), continues to push for seniors’ housing in Chestermere. A Seniors’ Advisory Committee has been tasked with carrying out the strategies from the Task Force 2020, including Housing Committee. The former Best Western Hotel is now Lakeshore Manor, an Chestermere Seniors’ Resource Handbook Page 18 independent living facility (occupancy fall 2020). Developers are planning local multi-level seniors care facilities, so residents won't have to leave Chestermere for supportive living in Prince of Peace Manor or Strathmore facilities.

Government of Alberta Assistance Affordable Housing Programs alberta.ca/affordable-housing-programs.aspx • Community Housing: Subsidized rental housing to low- income families, seniors and individuals who cannot afford other housing options. • Seniors Apartment: AKA the Seniors Self-contained Housing Program, this provides apartment-style housing to seniors who can live independently with or without assistance of community-based services. • Seniors Lodge: The Seniors Lodge Program offers rooms, meals, services and recreational opportunities for independent seniors. Community-based services may help offer these amenities and opportunities. • Special needs housing: Special needs housing options are available for individuals who have special housing needs, including: • people with developmental disabilities • people with physical challenges • victims of family violence • wards of the provincial government • the hard-to-house • any other group with special housing needs • Rent supplement programs • Private Landlord Rent Supplement: Local housing providers pay landlords a supplement to subsidize the difference between market rent and 30% of income. • Direct to Tenant Rent Supplement: A subsidy is paid directly to an eligible tenant to help with rental costs.
