Police Launch Safer Summer Campaign A campaign to ensure that the people of Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland stay safe during the summer months has been launched by . The force will be publishing social media messages on a different theme each day to help prevent crime and antisocial behaviour during the summer. Messages will focus on five key areas to help protect you, your property and your possessions. These topics are online safety, burglary, personal safety, vehicle crime and antisocial and nuisance behaviour. Superintendent Shane O’Neill, Neighbourhood Policing Lead at Leicestershire Police said: “During the summer months, people tend to wind down and can become a bit more relaxed with their security measures and may be less vigilant. The aim of the Safer Summer campaign is to ensure that everyone has a safe and enjoyable summer. By taking a few simple steps you can to help to protect yourself and your property. “I would like people to think about their actions and the impact that it can have on others. We want everyone to enjoy their summer and by following our Safer Summer advice we hope that the summer months are safe and happy. “Look out for our messages and share them with your friends and relatives. We will be promoting these through our social media accounts with the #SaferSummer and at local community events.” The Antisocial Behaviour Delivery Group, which is made up of Leicester City, Leicestershire County and Rutland County Councils, the Police and Leicestershire’s seven District Authorities are supporting the campaign. Facebook Glen Parva Gala Despite the weather’s best attempts to thwart the Parish Council’s plans, the Glen Parva Gala went ahead ‘as advertised’ on Saturday, 5th August 2017 at 2pm on Dorothy Avenue Playing Fields. Few of the stall holders cried off and there was the usual mix of foodstuffs available, from sweeties to samosas. There was plenty of entertainment. The Punch & Judy Man worked hard for his audiences, introducing a new generation to the antics of these outrageous characters. A short shower drove many people into the Circus Tent, from which everyone emerged smiling. Hook- a-Duck promised a prize ‘Every Time’. The dog shows went ahead in the arena and the birds of prey were displayed as planned. The Green Flag was raised — eventually — water in the works? And a cheque for £376 was presented to LOROS. This was money raised by the Glen Parva Open Gardens Event in June and will go towards the LOROS Sensory Garden. Glen Parva Parish Council is to be thanked for all its hard work in organising the Gala; its helpers for their tenacity in keeping going in spite of a heavy thunderstorm in the morning and everyone else who turned up. The day’s end was as glorious as its start was poor and there was time for a relaxing beer or Prosecco in the sunshine before going home.
