FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Seminal St. Louis band Three Merry Widows will reunite at Delmar Hall on April 5th in support of I Was the Moon, their first album release in nearly 28 years. The lineup features original members Alice Spencer on lead vocals, Sean Garcia and Brian Simpson on guitars, and Charles Shipman on bass. Veteran St. Louis musician Danny Hommes joins the band on drums as well as guest musician Kevin Buckley on violin. Their last St. Louis appearance was a two hour musical extravaganza at the Ready Room back in February of 2015.

The Widows’ music is a distinctive blend of psychedelic folk-rock, drawing influences from rock bands such as Traffic, Cream, , and English folk-rock pioneers Fairport Convention. Strong live performances and studio work earned the group numerous awards in the Riverfront Times “Best of St. Louis” polls including Best Rock & Roll Band, Alternative Band, Local Band, Best Club Concert, Original Music, Recording, and Female Vocalist. This led to extensive touring throughout the Midwest and East Coast before signing with -based TVT Records and releasing the College Music Journal Top 10 Album, Which Dreamed It?. During the 90’s, the band was featured on MTV’s and shared the stage with national acts such as Nirvana, Soul Asylum, School of Fish, Ziggy Marley, Billy Bragg, Trip Shakespeare, Firehose, and The Connells.

For their new record, the band revisited songs originally intended for their sophomore album. Over the past two years, Three Merry Widows has been convening at Sawhorse Studios in St. Louis to bring these songs to life. The result, I Was the Moon, was released digitally on February 14, with a limited edition vinyl pressing available at the Delmar Hall performance on April 5th.
