New House System

A new house system is being introduced at Malet Lambert from Praise for School September.

BBC School Report 2017 Pupils across years 7 - 10 took part in BBC School Report in March, which is a national initiative to encourage school-aged children to get involved in journalism and writing.

This is the third year that the school has been involved in the project and pupils were very excited to start on their reports.

Five pupils were in to start the day very early at 7.30am, for an interview with BBC Radio Breakfast Show about their plans for the day.

BBC reporter James Piekos chatted to them about possible projects and asked them to review the day’s newspapers.

Following this, pupils split into teams and spent the day researching and writing stories, which The Heart Dive into were then uploaded to the school website.

Malet pupil becomes Youth MP

Ski Trip 2017

Pupils and staff returned from the annual school ski trip after half term, having had a wonderful time in Northern Italy.

The group spent the best part of a week enhancing their skiing skills with daily lessons from instructors at a popular resort in LaThuile.

Head of School, Mr Sprakes, led the trip and was very proud of pupils’ behaviour.

He said, “What an amazing trip - the pupils were absolutely fantastic and so resilient.

“By the end of the week all pupils were competent skiers, which was brilliant to see.

“Their behaviour was exemplary and our rep commented on this. I couldn’t be more proud of them and I know they had a great time!”

Year 11 pupil Ellie echoed Mr Sprakes’ comments, saying ‘Mally Pally’ proves she’d recommend the trip to others in the school. She said, “It was an amazing experience, I’d recommend it to anyone else for next year – especially if you go with to be popular! a group of friends.

“The skiing was excellent and most of us found it really easy to pick up the skills. After a couple of days, we were trying the harder slopes and learning more difficult techniques from the instructors.

“The area we stayed in was beautiful and our resort was right in the middle of everything, so we could go on the slopes, or visit the shops and restaurants.

“Even though the skiing was great, we had so much fun on an evening too, taking part in quizzes and enjoying the entertainment with the teachers.

“This is my last year at Malet so it was good to relax a little before exams start, and make some memories before I leave.” 10 NEWS

BBC Radio 1 Academy comes to Malet Lambert

The BBC Radio 1 Academy kicked off their tour of Hull in March at Malet Lambert, speaking to Year 10 about careers in sports journalism.

The aim of the tour is to inspire young people to consider careers in the creative arts, and inform them of different pathways to take.

Pupils had the chance to ask questions and hear advice and guidance from industry professionals.

Pupils headed to school in their pyjamas or wearing something red to raise money for Red Nose Day 2017.

Malet Lambert raised over £920 by wearing non-uniform, pelting teachers with wet sponges, and buying cakes. They were also treated to singing performances from talented pupils in The Forum.
