With the help of the movement partners, staff and volunteers, the SSRC was able to respond to different emergencies. When the crisis of 15 December 2013 occurred, SSRC branch offices of Jonglei, Upper Nile and Unity were completely destroyed and this had a negative impact on the National Society’s ability to provide adequate support to the victims of conflict in the Greater Upper Nile region. However, the National Society went ahead to seek support for the affected communities and the displaced persons with support from the Red Cross Movement partners. In June 2015, the national Ministry of Health declared an outbreak of cholera in Juba, which quickly spread to other parts of the country like Torit, Bor and Malakal. SSRC quickly took up the challenge and mobilised resources for response. SSRC formed a task force to oversee the response and act timely to save peoples’ lives. SSRC was also part of the National Cholera Task Force. SSRC, through its wide network of volunteers, did a tremendous work in doing social mobilisation to curb down cholera especially in areas allocated to the National Society by the National Cholera Task Force both in Juba and Torit. In October 2014 the National Society held its first Partnership meeting in Nairobi which saw various Red Cross Movement partners attending. The Partnership and Movement Coordination meeting is normally organised to discuss the Movement and partnership mechanism for the SSRC. The Deputy Secretary General presented the SSRC’s development plans, focus for the years to come on behalf of the Secretary General, who was for medical treatment at the time of the meeting. The Secretary General also takes this time to acknowledge the support provided by the Partner National Societies, the International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, the International Committee of the Red Cross, SSRC management staff, board members and volunteers in ensuring that the National Society is able to respond to the various emergencies of 2014. The partners stood firm in all the critical times, providing both financial and technical support to enhance the capacity of the SSRC to respond. ………………………………………………….. John Lobor Secretary General South Sudan Red Cross Message from the South Sudan Red Cross President The year 2015 was challenging for South Sudan Red Cross as it was much stretched with the diversity of the crisis and emergencies that almost covered the whole country. The Governing board continued to support the National Society in monitoring of activities at all levels and stood firm with South Sudan Red Cross at branches and headquarter levels while responding to the different humanitarian needs. The Governing board members continued to attend branch board meetings, especially in the relatively peaceful branches of the country. The President of South Sudan Red Cross, on behalf of the board members, would like to take this opportunity to congratulate the entire South Sudan Red Cross volunteers, staff, board members and partners for the good work that was done in the year 2015. The work of South Sudan Red Cross was recognised throughout the country, for example during the cholera response and during the dead body management in July 2015. ……………………………………………….
