You healed the sick, you fed the hungry, you forgave sinners, you cried over Jerusalem. Above all, you showed to those who were prepared to listen the way to true life, for you are the Way the Truth and the Life. Lord, your heart is still moved today by your people and their many needs. Open our hearts to hear your word, to accept your love, and to respond to your call. In particular, I beg you to grant me the favour I ask (make you request silently), provided that it will contribute to my own eternal good and to the building up of your Kingdom of justice, peace and love here on earth. Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, I place all my trust in you. Amen. Prayers before the Blessed Sacrament Prayer for the 50th International Eucharistic Congress Prayer (Ireland 2012) Lord Jesus, You were sent by the Father to gather together those who are scattered. You came among us, doing good and bringing healing, announcing the Word of salvation and giving the Bread which lasts forever. Be our companion on life’s pilgrim way. May your Holy Spirit inflame our hearts, enliven our hope and open our minds, so that together with our sisters and brothers in faith we may recognise you in the Scriptures and in the breaking of bread. May your Holy Spirit transform us into one body and lead us to walk humbly on the earth, in justice and love, as witnesses of your resurrection. In communion with Mary, whom you gave to us as our Mother 3 | P a g e at the foot of the cross, through you may all praise, honour and blessing be to the Father in the Holy Spirit and in the Church, Now and forever. Amen ADORO TE DEVOTE (by St. Thomas Aquinas) There are various translations of this prayer of St. Thomas Aquinas. The translation below is by Gerard Manley Hopkins SJ - GODHEAD HERE IN HIDING Adoro te devote, latens Deitas, Godhead here in hiding, whom I do adore, Quæ sub his figuris vere latitas; Masked by these bare shadows, shape and nothing more, Tibi se cor meum totum subiicit, See, Lord, at Thy service low lies here a heart Quia te contemplans totum deficit. Lost, all lost in wonder at the God thou art. Visus, tactus, gustus in te fallitur, Seeing, touching, tasting are in thee deceived: Sed auditu solo tuto creditur. How says trusty hearing? that shall be believed; Credo quidquid dixit Dei Filius; What God's Son has told me, take for truth I do; Nil hoc verbo veritátis verius. Truth Himself speaks truly or there's nothing true. In cruce latebat sola Deitas, On the cross Thy godhead made no sign to men, At hic latet simul et Humanitas, Here Thy very manhood steals from human ken: Ambo tamen credens atque confitens, Both are my confession, both are my belief, Peto quod petivit latro pœnitens. And I pray the prayer of the dying thief. Plagas, sicut Thomas, non intueor: I am not like Thomas, wounds I cannot see, Deum tamen meum te confiteor. But can plainly call thee Lord and God as he; Fac me tibi semper magis credere, Let me to a deeper faith daily nearer move, In te spem habere, te diligere. Daily make me harder hope and dearer love. O memoriale mortis Domini O thou our reminder of Christ crucified, Panis vivus, vitam præstans homini Living Bread, the life of us for whom he died, Præsta meæ menti de te vívere, Lend this life to me then: feed and feast my mind, Et te illi semper dulce sapere. There be thou the sweetness man was meant to find. Pie Pelicane, Iesu Domine, Bring the tender tale true of the Pelican; Me immundum munda tuo sanguine: Bathe me, Jesu Lord, in what Thy bosom ran Cuius una stilla salvum facere Blood whereof a single drop has power to win Totum mundum quit ab omni scelere. All the world forgiveness of its world of sin. Iesu, quem velatum nunc aspicio, Jesu, whom I look at shrouded here below, Oro, fiat illud quod tam sitio: I beseech thee send me what I thirst for so, Ut te revelata cernens facie, Some day to gaze on thee face to face in light Visu sim beátus tuæ gloriæ. • 54 Day Rosary Novena in Honor of Our Lady of Pompeii
54 Day Rosary Novena in Honor of Our Lady of Pompeii The most powerful prayer offered to Our Lady, Mediatrix of All Graces, to obtain extraordinary graces. As promoted by Blessed Barto Longo 1841-1926 (former satanic priest who converted to the Roman Catholic Church became a Third Order Dominican, dedicating his life to the Blessed Virgin Mary and the Rosary) Pray this first part in petition for 27 days Make a list of petitions (graces) you are asking Our Lady’s intercession for and present them to her with confidence! Put the image of the Virgin of Pompeii on display and, if possible, light a candle as a symbol of the faith which burns in your heart. Then take the Rosary beads in your hands. Before beginning the Novena, pray to St. Catherine of Siena that she may graciously deign to join you in prayer. O Saint Catherine of Siena, my Protectress and Teacher, who from Heaven assists your devotees when they recite the Rosary of Mary, come to my aid in this moment and deign to recite with me the Novena to the Queen of the Rosary, who has established the throne of her graces in the Valley of Pompeii, that through your intercession, I may obtain the grace I desire. Amen. O God, come to my assistance. O Lord, make haste to help me. Glory be to the Father... I. – O Immaculate Virgin and Queen of the Holy Rosary, in these times of dead faith and triumphant impiety you wished to establish your throne as Queen and Mother in the ancient land of Pompeii, the resting place of dead pagans.

Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ St. Michael Church June 14, 2020 Prelude Music By Our Love Tom Kendzia Gathering Hymn At the Table of Jesus SIMPLE GIFTS Refrain At the table of Jesus we are nourished and fed By the blessing cup and heaven’s living bread. At the table of Jesus earth and heaven are wed. To a hungry world, by our God we are led. 1. Where love and charity are found, there God is among us; God’s goodness abounds. As Christ gathers many as one, let our hearts be glad and reflect God’s love. 2. Now, as we gather all as one, division is ended, communion begun. Let fear, anger, hatred now end. Let us dwell in love as our God intends. Text: Based on Ubi Caritas; Tony E. • Fifty Four Day Novena
FIFTY FOUR DAY NOVENA Origin In an apparition of Our Lady of Pompeii, which occurred in 1884 at Naples, in the house of Commander Agrelli, the heavenly Mother deigned to make known the manner in which she desires to be invoked. For thirteen months Fortuna Agrelli, the daughter of the Commander, had endured dreadful sufferings and torturous cramps. The most celebrated physicians had given up. On February 16, 1884, the afflicted girl and her relatives commenced a novena of Rosaries. The Queen of the Holy Rosary favoured her with an apparition on March 3rd. Mary, sitting upon a high throne, surrounded by luminous figures, held the divine Child on her lap, and in her hand a Rosary. The Virgin Mother and the Holy Infant were clad in gold embroidered garments. They were accompanied by Saint Dominic and Saint Catherine of Siena. The throne was profusely decorated with flowers; the beauty of Our Lady was marvellous. Mary looked upon the sufferer with maternal tenderness and the patient saluted her with the words: “Queen of the Holy Rosary, be gracious to me; restore me to health! I have already prayed to thee in a novena O Mary, but have not yet experienced thy aid. I am so anxious to be cured!” “Child”, responded the Blessed Virgin, “thou hast invoked me by various titles and hast always obtained favours from me. Now, since thou hast called me by that title so pleasing to me, ‘Queen of the Holy Rosary’, I can no longer refuse the favour thou dost petition; for this name is most precious and dear to me.

It is the perception of a person who is thoroughly steeped in God.” Dietrich Bonhoeffer, notes, “This is not the gentle, tender, dreamy Mary whom we sometimes see in paintings; this is the passionate, surrendered, proud, enthusiastic Mary who speaks out.

  • Appendices 1 – 12
APPENDICES 1 – 12 Religion Course of Study PreK-12 --- Diocese of Toledo --- 2018 Appendix 1: God’s Plan of Salvation -- A Summary (Used with permission, Diocese of Green Bay, WI) It is very important that before we dive into the religion Course of Study each year, we set the stage with an overview of God’s plan of salvation – the adventurous story of God’s unfailing love for us, his persistence in drawing us back to himself, and the characters along the way who succeed and fail in their quest for holiness. The context of the Story of Salvation will provide the proper foundation for the rest of your catechetical instruction. The Story can be taught as a one-day lesson, or a week long lesson. Each teacher must make a determination of how long they will take to present the Story to their students. It is important that the story be presented so that each of us can understand our place and purpose in the larger plan of God, as well as how the Church is central to God’s plan of salvation for the world. An overview of God’s plan is to be presented at the beginning of each year, and should be revisited periodically during the year as the subject matter or liturgical season warrants. Please make the presentation appropriate to the grade level. 1. God is a communion of Persons: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. The three Persons in one God is the Blessed Trinity. God has no beginning and no end.

  • Novena to Our Lady of La Salette, Reconciler of Sinners
Novena to Our Lady of La Salette, Reconciler of Sinners What is a novena? A novena is a prayer tradition that ties back to the time the apostles and Mary spent praying together between Jesus’s ascension into heaven and Pentecost. It is a set of reflections intended to be said over nine successive days. Novenas can be prayed in a group or in private. All that’s needed is a sincere heart as you pray for the intentions of the novena. First day of novena – Welcome Scripture says: “Come to me, all you who labor and are burdened, and I will give you rest. For my yoke is easy, and my burden light.” (Matthew 11:28, 30) Mary said: “Come near, my children.” Meditation: What a wonderful invitation! In all simplicity Mary at La Salette calls the two children to come near. Her words echo her son’s invitation to come to him that we may find rest from our burdens and refreshment for our spirits. This, too, is Mary’s desire: that her children – meaning us as well – should feel welcomed and loved. Mary wishes us to come nearer to God who desires only good for us. We must approach and listen to her words, spoken with the love and concern of Jesus. She and her son wish that during this La Salette novena, we may “have life and have it more abundantly.” (John 10:10b) This special time of prayer can help us experience the welcoming presence of Mary and her loving son. [quiet reflection] Our prayer: Virgin Mother of La Salette, we approach your loving son with confidence.
