[email protected] Dennis Senior Center Group Highlight Whether a life-long resident of Cape Cod or a recent “wash-ashore,” if you’re looking for friendship and comradery, an active selection of social activities in which to participate with your spouse or guest, or a broad range of informative, entertaining speakers at club meetings, the Retired Men’s Club of Cape Cod (RMC) could be just the place for you. The RMC was founded in March 1952 by the Reverend Carl F. Schultz, with just 37 charter members. During the early years the principle activity was singing in “The Retired Men’s Club Chorus”. The chorus separated from the rest of the Club in 1988 and The Retired Men’s Club as we now know it was born. Meetings were held in area churches until 2002 when the Club moved to the Dennis Senior Center where it remains today. Since August 1994, membership has risen steadily, approach- ing a current membership of 320. Among the many activities available to Club members are Spring and Fall golf tournaments played at some of the finest courses in the- Com monwealth at greatly discounted playing fees. A ten-team candlepin bowling league meets weekly, from September to May, for regular and substitute bowlers. The Club’s annual clambake and the special Holiday Luncheon supporting the Cape Cod’s “Toys for Tots” program are especially popular among mem- bers and their guests. Last month’s Christmas Luncheon attendees enjoyed a special performance by the Cape’s own Siobhan Magnus. If none of those are to your liking, how about these social activities being planned for 2020: “Pub nights” at local pubs, lunches at various Cape restaurants, weekly bocce ball and corn-toss competitions, boat and sightseeing trips, casino visits and many more. All RMC activities, with the exceptions of golf, bowling and most monthly General Membership Meetings are open to members and their guests. Monthly General Membership Meetings are held at the Dennis Senior Center on Route 134 in South Dennis at 1:30pm on the second Thursday of every month (except July, August or December). Prospective members may join at any monthly meeting, by contacting any current member or through the Club’s website at www.retiredmensclub.com. You won’t be disappointed. Here at the senior center, even with all the “newness” being constructed outside, we still are offering programs and activities that can be “new to you.” We still Marion Prendergast, LSW offer great exercise and dance classes, still have board and card games, Outreach Coordinator educational seminars, day trips and, my favorite, tea and talk.
