Our objective was to analyze the spatial patterns of arthropod assemblages along a gradient of different stabilization levels, which represents the different stages of dune stabilization - from the shifting crest of the dune to the stabilized crusted interdune. The study was carried out at the sand dunes of the northwestern Negev in Israel. Data was collected using dry pitfall traps over two consecutive years during the spring along northern windward aspects. -

Inst., ARC, Dokki, Giza (Manuscript received 30 November 2015) Abstract n updated checklistof the Egyptian species of the family Tenebrionidae (Coleoptera) is presented. The listincludes A about 397 species belonging to 5 subfamilies in 33 tribesbased on the records in literatures and material kept in the main reference insect collections of Egypt. Synonyms of some species and the recent taxonomic position are included. The taxa (subfamilies, tribes, genera and species) are arranged in alphabetical order. Key words: Coleoptera ,Tenebrionidae, Egypt . INTRODUCTION Family Tenebrionidae (Darkling beetles) is one of the largest families of order Coleoptera, icluding about20.000known species in nearly 1700 genera of worldwide distribution (Booth et al., 1990). Ten subfamiliesare accepted now for this family (Loble et al., 2008).The majority are entirely terrestrial and very common in desert and semi- desert areas and are found in rotten wood, under logs and stones, in termite and ant nests, on plant debris, in dry dung of animals and in houses and granaries. Many are generalist feeders on detritus whether of animal or plant material and few are predators. Few species are known to be agricultural or stored products pests. The scientific names and taxonomic position of many species was a subject of taxonomic change in the last decades as a result of more critical studies such as Bouchard et al (2005, 2007, 2009 and 2011). Lawrence and Newton (2005) who provided taxonomic data on the family group names of coleoptera including Tenebrionidae with studies on biology, phylogeny and classification of some families, subfamilies with selected genera of Coleoptera. -

Box: 45553, Abu Dhabi, UAE Abstract: Invertebrate survey conducted to establish species knowledge to assess habitat and diversity of ground dwelling invertebrates in proposed Houbara bustard Chlamydotis undulata macqueenii release sites of the Western Region of Abu Dhabi Emirate. The specific invertebrate species diet of Houbara Bustard in this region is poorly known and this study helps to understand those needs for attempts restore Houbara Bustard populations in the wild. Pitfall traps were used to study the diversity and seasonal abundance of invertebrates, especially ground dwelling darkling beetles (Tenebrionidae) at five desert sites in the Western Region of Abu Dhabi Emirate from March 2009 to February 2010. Traps were checked monthly and analysis was done based on the total catch of Tenebrionids from all study sites. The most abundant were Tenebrionid specimens. From all sites a total of 5720 Tenebrionid beetles were trapped, representing 15 species. The most dominant were Adesmia stoeckleini rasalkhaymana, Prionotheca coronata, Erodius octacostatus, Blap skollari kollari, Pimelia arabica, Pimelia arabica emiri, Apentanodesarabica and Paraplatyopepopovi. The species P. coronata, P. arabica, Mesostena puncticollis, A. arabica and P. popovi were found in all sites while species A. stoeckleini rasalkhaymana was confined to Site I. Number of Tenebrionids trapped in winter and midsummer were low, they reached peak in the spring when the weather was moderate and plant diversity highest. -

They are highly threatened by urbanisation and human development. The dunes in Nizzanim Dunes Nature Reserve, Israel, have additionally incurred shrub encroachment following exclusion of grazing and wood extraction from the area. The temporal changes over the last few decades have been monitored in the Nizzanim Long-Term Ecological Research project and are reflected by spatial heterogeneity. Some dunes are fixed with high plant cover and associated characteristics, while other dunes are still in semi-fixed and mobile states. Measures of beetle abundance, richness and diversity showed significant differences, among dune states. Cluster analysis and ordination of species composition revealed distinct assemblages for three different states, with more psammophilous species found in mobile dunes than in other dune states. Variation within a dune state was not significant for any dune state, while among states species composition was signifi- cantly different, demonstrating high β-diversity between dune states. -

Accepted 27 January, 2014 A study was conducted to understand the diversity, distribution, abundance and seasonality of ground dwelling invertebrate species in the eastern region of Abu Dhabi Emirate, from March 2010 to February 2011. Pitfall traps were used for this study in two sites with distinct micro - habitats in the Eastern Region of the Emirate. The site includes a wadi habitat at Jebel Hafit, Al Ain and another one is a gravel plain habitat at Mezyad, Al Ain. Beetles (Coleoptera) of the family Tenebrionidae (darkling beetles) are a conspicuous element of these arid and semi-arid environments. Variable stalker beetle ( Adesmia cancellata cothurnata ) was the most abundant Tenebrionid among twenty species collected using pitfall traps in the wadi of Jebel Hafit whereas opossum beetle ( Mesostena puncticollis ) was the most abundant Tenebrionid among twenty in the sandy gravel plain habitat of Um Ghafa, Mezyad. However, their phylogeny is highly controversial due to their morphological crypticness and multiple markers used previously for sequence homology. Although many studies suggest that their diversity currently relies majorly on morphological analysis, nevertheless DNA barcodes may provide a functional, standardized tool for their unique identification. In the present report, a fragment of the mitochondrial cytochrome c oxidase I (COI) gene has been proposed as standard DNA barcoding marker for the identification of organisms. Result: To evaluate this hypothesis, a random sampling was conducted in and around Vadodara, Gujarat, where 2690 individual of 65 species belonging to 16 families were reported from different sites, and diversity indices were employed to unravel the species composition of that habitat. Further, 12 beetles from dominant families were selected for sequence analysis using various bioinformatics tools and were compared with the rest of the beetles to obtain a more robust phylogeny which is not reported earlier in previous studies. Conclusion: Hence, the present study suggests that Scarabaeidae tends to be more diverse in and nearby of Vadodara compared to all other families of Coleoptera and while in contrast Chrysomelidae showed maximum diversity of pest species. -

The current investigation showed 9 species belonging to eight genera, under three subfamilies,date and localities of collection were recorded. Two new records of Eleodes dentipes Eschscholtz, 1829 and Omophlus lepturoides (Fabricius, 1787) are recorded for the first time for Iraqi fauna. Tenebrionidae INTRODUCTION Tenebrionidae are one of the largest Coleoptera families occurring in all terrestrial habitats from the sea shore up to dry desert and steppe habitats in all altitudinal belts, and in all types of forests (1). The Darkling beetles is a common name on family Tenebrionidae (Insecta: coleoptera), with about 200000 species in nearly 1700 genera of worldwide distribution, around 8,000 species are found in the Palaearctic Region (16, 17). Ten subfamiliesare accepted now for this family (9). mostly rather large and flightless, although a few species living in rotten wood and in stored products are small (2) They live mainly in the soil, under logs, or in leaf litter, and feed on dead organic material (3). Darkling beetles play an extraordinarily important ecological role in arid and semi-arid ecosystems as they are the dominant detritivores. They occupy a variety of habitats that differ in both climatic (temperature, humidity) and structural (soil texture, vegetation cover) characteristics.
