State Regent’s Message

Hello Daughters! What a great Conference we had! We honored our HODARs at lunch on Thursday. Opening night was wonderful, with a visit from the “Madonna of the Trail” (Elysia Segal), who shared stories of women who crossed the by wagon. Everyone enjoyed the reception in the State Regent’s Suite, and most wore wear or Madonna of the Trail pioneer attire. This got us in the mood for the evening. Our speaker was Pat Traffas, who told us about the Lewis and Clark Expedition. At lunch on Friday, we honored Veterans Medical Centers Nurses. On to dinner where we were honored to have the Army Band (Pershing's Own) and the SAR Color Guard. Our program, which honored the Korean War Veterans, included George Owings, III, Maryland Secretary of Veterans Affairs, and our guest speaker, Ranger Berger of the National Park Service who talked about the Korean War Memorial. In addition, our two guest speakers on Thursday and Friday drew a large crowd, filling the room each day. Our Chapter Regents and State Committee Chairmen gave us great ideas from their reports about activities. We also have a new Outstanding Junior for the State, Susanna Aguirre. Susanna will represent Maryland at Congress this year. There is just so much to say about Conference but one of the things that really stood out was our 125th anniversary of the Maryland Society. We had cake for I hope to see all of you at Fall Forum, where all can come dessert Friday night, after singing “Happy Birthday” to to get information on the coming year, and attend a ourselves! workshop.
