    WERKGROEP VERKEER naar een betere verkeerscirculatie in de nieuwmarktbuurt In de zomer van 2014 heeft de Werkgroep Verkeer van de Bewonersraad Nieuwmarkt-Groot Waterloo het initiatief genomen om een plan te ontwerpen ter verbetering van de verkeersomstandigheden in de ruime Nieuwmarktbuurt. Het plan is bestemd voor het bestuur van Amsterdam en het Stadsdeel Amsterdam en bestaat uit de volgende onderdelen: 1. een kaart met de afbakening van het aandachtsgebied; 2. de aanleidingen en drijfveren; 3. een inventarisatie van de belangrijkste problemen; 4. een inventarisatie van de gebruikte sluiproutes, met kaart; 5. de gestelde doelen; 6. aannames; 7. een aantal scenario’s waarmee de Werkgroep Verkeer de problemen wil oplossen, die al dan niet in combinatie met elkaar kunnen worden toegepast, eventueel samen met 8. een concreet scenario om luchtvervuiling terug te dringen in de gehele binnenstad; 9. conclusies en aanbevelingen; 10. bijlagen. De Werkgroep Verkeer handelt in opdracht van de Bewonersraad en staat onder voorzitterschap van Peter Paschenegger. De leden zijn: Nico Beuk, Ilco Braam, Ben van Duin, Cliff van Dijk, Mariken de Goede, Manu Hartsuyker, Guido Pouw, Evert van Voskuilen en Jet Willers. Veel dank is de Werkgroep Verkeer verschuldigd voor de hulp en adviezen van de ambtenaren Wies Daamen, Auke-Jan Drenth en Eefke van Lier. De huidige opbouwsels zijn tegen een verhoogde muur aangeplaatst die om de hoven heen staan. Verder worden er een paar opbouwen van technische ruimtes die wel een onderdeel van het gebouw uitmaken verwijderd. Deze elementen zijn niet oorspronkelijk maar later toegevoegd. Oorspronkelijk was de hof een centrale hal met een glazen kap bij het dak. Om het strakke kubistische ontwerp niet te verstoren werd op het dak rondom de kap een muur gebouwd (zie bijgeleverde afbeeldingen). Met de bouw van het verbindend element die de centrale hal in tweeën deelde, is de kap verwijderd en is de hal bij de verdiepingsvloer dicht gelegd. De muur is grotendeels blijven staan. Op het dak heeft in het verleden nog een later toegevoegde kantine gestaan.

Daarnaast vallen Grachtengordel-West, De Jordaan en de Haarlemmerbuurt incl. Westerdok/ IJdok en de Westelijke Eilanden onder dit gebied. Centrum West is het drukste gebied van Amsterdam met een mix van verschillende stedelijke functies op een klein oppervlak: wonen, werken, studeren en recreëren. De druk op het gebied neemt elk jaar toe: er komen meer banen, winkels, hotelkamers en bezoekers bij. In het gebied bevinden zich concentraties van bedrijven, kantoren en onderwijsinstellingen, evenals de bekendste toeristische trekpleisters (Rondvaartboten, Anne Frankhuis, Red Light District enz.) en winkelgebieden (de Kalverstraat, Nieuwendijk en de 9-straatjes) in combinatie met horeca. Vooral op de Burgwallen moeten winkels, horeca, bedrijvigheid, toerisme en bewoners de beperkte ruimte delen. Alle voorzieningen maken het gebied aantrekkelijk, maar er zijn ook zorgen dat het te druk wordt en dat dit ten koste gaat van de leefbaarheid in de buurt. De Grachtengordel-West met zijn grote statige grachtenpanden is altijd een rijke woonbuurt geweest.

We investigate how Amsterdam’s water management and governance developed historically and how these lessons can be used to further improve water management in Amsterdam and other cities. This retrospective analysis starts at 1672 and applies the City Blueprint Approach as a baseline water management assessment.
