PROCLAMATION OF THE MENDOCINO COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS RECOGNIZING Benjamin Bettencourt IN ACHIEVING THE RANK OF EAGLE SCOUT IN THE BOY SCOUTS OF AMERICA, TROOP 316 IN MENDOCINO COUNTY WHEREAS, approximately Five percent of all Boy Scouts annually earn the rank of Eagle Scout, which is the highest rank in scouting; and WHEREAS, Benjamin is a member of the Boy Scouts of America/Redwood Empire Council, Troop 316 sponsored by Grace Bible Fellowship in Redwood Valley, Mendocino County, California, joining Cub Scouts in 2004 and becoming a boy scout in 2008 with commitment and dedication to scouting's core values of Leadership, Character, Community Service, Achievement, and the Outdoors; and WHEREAS, Benjamin received the ranks of First Class in November of 2009, Star Scout in November of 2011, Life Scout in October of 2012; and WHEREAS, Benjamin has earned a total of 31 merit badges in addition to serving as the Assistant Patrol Leader, receiving the Arrow of Light, and attending the National Youth Leadership Training in 2012 and the BSA National Jamboree in 2013; and WHEREAS, in his quest to attain the rank of Eagle Scout, Benjamin planned, organized, participated in and supervised the project of cleaning every headstone and grave in the Potter Valley Cemetery by hand and in the final steps of the project, uploaded information on the family names, birth and death years, and GPS location of each headstone on the website “Billion Graves” for people to search for their ancestors; and WHEREAS, Benjamin recruited and supervised Eight volunteers and he and the volunteers shared a total of 82 hours on the project; and WHEREAS, Benjamin has exhibited exemplary leadership in his community and in his Boy Scout Troop, demonstrating the commitment and dependability of America’s youth involved in the Boy Scout Program. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Board of Supervisors of the County of Mendocino wishes Benjamin success in his studies, as well as in all future endeavors, and hopes that he will continue to exhibit strong and positive leadership within his community, county and country.
