Enjoy authentic music and lively conversation as well as special workshops before select performances. The series is sponsored by Hampton Inn and Suites. Jaimee Harris ‐ Saturday, September 9 *Singer Songwriter Concert Series ‐ Presented by O’Hair Salon + Spa 3 p.m. Workshop; 7:30 p.m. Concert, Arts Barn $45 Workshop & Concert; $25 Concert Only Jaimee captures audiences wherever she goes with her unique blend of pop melodies and folk‐rooted lyrics. Drawing from musical influences as diverse as Patty Griffin and The Nerves, Jaimee’s musical palette is as broad as it is deep. “Her lyrics set something in motion that triggers the memory, melts the heart, warms the soul, maybe even strikes that chord within that leaves you a bit forlorn,” says Laurie Gallardo, KUTX Austin. Left Bank Quartet‐ 20th Century Classics ‐ Saturday, October 14 8 p.m., Arts Barn $25 General; $15 Youth (18 & under) Meet & Greet following the performance. The Left Bank Quartet, known for its brilliant focus and timbral variety, brings an exciting program of three classic 20th century string quartets to the Arts Barn. Stravinsky’s quirky “Three pieces for String Quartet” opens the program, followed by Ravel's colorful and technically brilliant Quartet in F. Bartok's Sixth and final quartet, a work of heart‐wrenching beauty, concludes the program. Together since 1999, the ensemble took its name from the location of its first regular venue, the Kennedy Center, situated on the left bank of the Potomac River. The Quartet features David Salness and Sally McLain on violin, Katherine Murdock on viola and Eric Kutz on cello. Levon Mikaelian ‐ Saturday, October 28 8 p.m., Arts Barn $25 General; $15 Youth (18 & under) Experience the newest music from Levon Mikaelian’s highly anticipated upcoming CD, Untainted, featuring original music and unique jazz arrangements of Armenian folk songs inspired by precious beginnings and family traditions. Mikaelian, pianist, composer and singer, can be found performing in jazz clubs throughout the Washington, DC metro area. Charlie Faye and The Fayettes ‐ Saturday, November 18 *Singer Songwriter Concert Series ‐ Presented by O’Hair Salon + Spa 3 p.m. Workshop; 7:30 p.m. Concert, Arts Barn $45 Workshop & Concert; $25 Concert Only Charlie Faye & the Fayettes craft smart soul‐pop that merges the swinging, swaying sound and style of ‘60s girl groups with a modern vibe that’s so current, they’re dancing to the forefront of a retro revival. The Austin trio features Charlie Faye, BettySoo and Akina Adderley. Charlie Faye is ready to launch another movement, and the time is right … for dancing. Cool Yule With Mark G. Meadows ‐ Friday, December 15 8 p.m., Kentlands Mansion $25 General; $15 Youth (18 & under) Enjoy arrangements of holiday favorites and endearing originals in the beautifully decorated Kentlands Mansion with acclaimed jazz composer, pianist, vocalist, collaborator, recording artist, teacher, and actor, Mark G. Meadows. He is a man on a mission to create a unifying sound that breaks through social barriers. There’s something for everyone in his music, which harmonizes pop, gospel, R&B, hip hop, funk, and jazz. With lyrics suffused with meaning and a velvety voice, Meadows cuts through the noise to speak to all. Debonair on the stage, he is also an entertainer of the highest caliber. A Singer Songwriter Holiday ‐ Sunday, December 17 7 p.m., Arts Barn $25 General; $15 Youth (18 & under) Local singer songwriter favorites come together for an evening of traditional and original holiday songs. Mix and mingle with the artists after the performance. Floyds Row ‐ Saturday, January 27 8 p.m., Arts Barn $25 General; $15 Youth (18 & under) British‐American ensemble Floyds Row has wide appeal. Truly genre‐fusing, the group combines early, folk, classical, roots, Americana, traditional, and newgrass. Captivating performances include a mix of traditional pieces from composers of the 16th and 17th centuries, covers from modern folk singers such as Joan Baez, Bob Dylan and the Grateful Dead, and original compositions that pull from the meld of the traditional and the classical. The Terrace for Moonlit Audiences with Alex Peh ‐ Saturday, March 3 8 p.m., Arts Barn $25 General; $15 Youth (18 & under) Renowned pianist Alex Peh is known for his buoyancy and finesse. As a mesmerizing national and international recitalist and magnetic lecturer, he shares intriguing music and insight into his programs. Don’t miss his fresh program of Gamelan transcriptions and Claude Debussy preludes at the Arts Barn. Laura Cantrell ‐ Saturday, March 24 *Singer Songwriter Concert Series ‐ Presented by O’Hair Salon + Spa 3 p.m. Workshop; 7:30 p.m. Concert, Arts Barn $50 Workshop & Concert; $30 Concert Only Nashville‐born, New York‐based country music artist Laura Cantrell uses her clear, purposeful voice to illuminate her stories and pull you in so you just want to listen to more. Her music has been celebrated in The New York Times, “O” Magazine, Elle, and the Wall Street Journal, and has been featured on NPR’s “All Things Considered,” and “Weekend Edition.” She has performed on “A Prairie Home Companion,” “Mountain Stage” and the “Grand Ole Opry,” and appeared on “Late Night with Conan O’Brien” and Sundance Channel’s “Spectacle: Elvis Costello.” Her most recent release, Laura Cantrell at the BBC, compiles the best of her UK radio performances from 2000 to 2005, tracing the arc of her rise as an Americana artist on the airwaves of the British Broadcasting Corporation. Chris Barrick Quartet ‐ Saturday, April 7 8 p.m., Arts Barn $25 General; $15 Youth (18 & under) Percussionist, vibraphonist, drummer and educator Chris Barrick is back in DC and has quickly become an active, high demand musician on the DC jazz scene. Catch the amazing Chris Barrick Quartet at the Arts Barn. David Olney ‐ Saturday, May 12 *Singer Songwriter Concert Series ‐ Presented by O’Hair Salon + Spa 3 p.m. Workshop; 7:30 p.m. Concert, Arts Barn $45 Workshop & Concert; $25 Concert Only Master craftsman, acclaimed singer songwriter and globe‐trotting performer David Olney has released more than 20 albums over four decades, including six live recordings. His music has been prominently featured in ABC‐TV’s Nashville and his stellar songs have been recorded by Emmylou Harris, Linda Ronstadt, Del McCoury, Tim O’Brien and Steve Young, among many others. Hebret Musica ‐ Saturday, June 2 8 p.m., Arts Barn $25 General; $15 Youth (18 & under) Led by drummer and composer Abinnet Berhanu, Hebret Musica (Community Music) combines Ethiopian sounds with soulful, modern jazz. Hebret Musica brings audience members to the edge of their seats in the many jazz clubs in the Washington, DC area, including Twins Jazz Club, the Capitalbop Jazz Loft Series, The Richmond Jazz Society, Stage at the Second Street Festival, Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, and more. * Singer Songwriter Concert Series: Experience inspiring performances and explore your creativity with this series presented by O’Hair Salon + Spa. It celebrates musicians who write, compose and sing their own original material. In addition to the concert experience, patrons can participate in special workshops with the artists for a unique insight into the world of the singer songwriter. Local musicians will be featured before the nationally and internationally known headliners.
