BE IT RESOLVED, by the Board of Regents of the Corpus thristi Junior College District, that:

WHEREAS, the Founder of the American GI Forum of the U.S., the distinguished United Nations Ambassador, and the recipient of the Presidential

Medal of Freedom, Dr. Hector Perez Garcia and the notable Texas Hall of Fame,

Historian, Dr. Clotilde P. Garcia are considering the donation of their archives to Del Mar College; and

WHEREAS, chese historical and literary documents, if obtained, are listed in a proposal which will form the nucleus of an instructional collection and

educatiohal programming in a Center For Ethnic Studies and Cultural Development at Del Mar College; and

WHEREAS, the Del Mar College Foundation provides instructional resources and facilities designed to maintain state-of-the-art technical classroom capabilities; and

WHEREAS, the Del Mar College Foundation supplements student service possibilities arising from the unique cultural and socio-economic opportunites in the South Texas area; and

WHEREAS, the Del Mar College Foundation supports among other things the

educational activities required of special needs groups which are outside the mainstream of education; and .

W¥EREAS, the Del Mar College Foundation will review and develop the

essential elements of a funding program entitled Center For Ethnic Studies

and Cultural Development at Del Mar College; and WHEREAS, community suppoft on a state, national, and interbational scale ., will be developed from identified resources to underwrite the housing and teaching benefits from these possible gifts to enhance the teacaing-learning process at Del Mar College; NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Board of Regents at this meeting recommends that the proposal for a Center For Ethnic Studies and Cultural

Development be reviewed by the Del Mar College Foundation Board as to its feasibility for Del Mar College, as well as the specific funding of the project.

Funding should be considered by the Foundation Board from a variety of resources including partial initial staff funding to come from budgeted operctional accounts with anticipateA matching funds through contributions from the National

Archives and Historical Foundation of the American G.I. Forum.

The foregoing resolution was duly offered, seconded and unanimously adopted by the Board of Regents of the Corpus Christi Junior College District at a regular meeting held in Corpus Christi, Texas, on May 21, 1985, at which a quorum was present.
