At the START POINT: The start point in Perkins St. ALEXANDRA Cars assemble from 8:00 am, with the first cars flagged away at 9:30 am. 2. At the SERVICE PARK in Thornton, around the Sports oval. Cars are at service from 11:30 am until 2:20 pm. 3. At the FINISH POINT: This is at the Alexandra Race Course. Cars will begin to arrive from 2:30 pm. 3. FINISH From 2:45 pm 1. START 2. Junction of Royston River Road and Browns Road. CARS VISIT THIS LOCATION 2 TIMES. Allow 50 minutes to reach this location from Alexandra Car 1 due approx. 10:00 am, then again 1:00 pm. The field should take nearly 2 hours to pass through this point. From ALEXANDRA, proceed to Thornton Turn South onto the Thornton Taggerty Road. After 3km Turn Left onto Rubicon Road Follow Rubicon Road for 6.1 km where the surface changes to gravel. [TR after only 3.7 for point 5] Continue another 1.6 km then Turn Left across a bridge then keep Right (Royston River Rd). Continue for approx. 7.7 km, U-turn then park facing the way you came. CAUTION: the last 9 km are narrow, winding and often steep. Cars approach to tight left hand turn. Spectate from high on the bank on the Right as you approach. Junction of Blue Range Road and Gravel Pit Road. CARS VISIT THIS LOCATION 2 TIMES. Allow 40 minutes to reach this location from Alexandra Car 1 due approx. 10:30 am, then again 1:30 pm. The field should take nearly 2 hours to pass through this point. From ALEXANDRA, proceed to Thornton Turn South onto the Thornton Taggerty Road. After 3km Turn Left onto Rubicon Road Follow Rubicon Road for 3.7 km then Turn Right onto BLUE RANGE RD. CAUTION: BLUE RANGE RD becomes a gravel road – drive carefully; sharp bends!. Continue for approx. 5 km, U-turn then park facing the way you came. Cars approach downhill to an open left hand turn, then disappear downhill. There are magnificent terraces on the left as you approach. CAR 1 DUE 10:30 am THEN CAR 1 DUE 1:30 pm VIEWING TERRACES NO ACCESS TO THIS ACCESS AREA PATH PARKING AREA Specific Spectator Instructions (Please Read) 1. Spectators are directed to view the cars whilst standing within the markers indicating the limits of the controlled spectator area – spectating outside those areas indicated is prohibited. 2. Spectators must not stand in prohibited areas, and must at all times stand behind the bunting which marks the spectator area. 3. The instructions of the Safety Officer/Marshals must be obeyed. The Safety Officer has the power to postpone a stage until the spectator point is controlled to his satisfaction. 4. It is prohibited to ignore the spectator instructions and find your own way around. Not only is there a danger of meeting up with an oncoming rally vehicle, but many roads have wash-aways, collapsed bridges, etc. which are potentially hazardous for the driver. The main spectator route has been surveyed and is safe. MOTOR RACING IS DANGEROUS Spectators are reminded that Motor Sport is dangerous and accidents can happen. All care is taken to protect the public, but spectators are warned that there is a possibility of an accident causing injury, death or property damage. It is a condition of attending this event that spectators and all persons do so entirely at their own risk. By doing so, the spectator acknowledges that entry to the event venue has a degree of danger and the promoter, clubs, corporations, organisations and persons involved having any connection with promoting, organising or conduct of the event shall have no liability to you except in regard to any rights you may have arising under the Trade Practices Act 1974.

  • DARRYL WILCOX Darryl Wilcox Was Born in Hobart on 4Th September
    DARRYL WILCOX Darryl Wilcox was born in Hobart on 4th September 1946 and has lived most of his life at Huonville where he and Maureen have recently moved back again this year. During his long and illustrious career Darryl has raced a number of Holdens, from FX to his recently sold Monaro, most of which have appeared in the familiar Wilcox Blue. First race was at Hillwood Hillclimb in 1963 where he went to watch fellow Huon Valley resident Ian Smith run his Cooper S and ended up having a couple of runs himself. This was followed shortly afterwards by a run at the Domain Hillclimb. At this time in life Darryl’s main sporting interest was as a player for the Huonville Football Club. His football career came to an abrupt end when he was knocked unconscious in the 1963 Grand Final and as a result he never played again. Darryl’s first race meeting was at Baskerville in late 1963 where he managed to circulate without embarrassing himself. Shortly afterwards, after driving up to Orford with a mate in a fast early model Holden, he ended up with a broken leg after a road accident which on the way home. The accident put him out of action for twelve months. It was during his recuperation whilst staying with an Aunty in Hobart that he discovered in an outside shed a tin of what was to become the Wilcox Racing colour. Racing locally for a couple of years Darryl became a contender for honours among the early models as he built up his racing skills.

    Bob Holden – the man who won’t give up By Paul Watson ob Holden is a legend of Australian motor sport and a hero of Peugeot lovers. But his success was won only through a combination of self- Bmotivation and persistence. Bob was born in 1932 at Notting Hill and lived at Oakleigh, near the Dandenong Road-Ferntree Gully Road intersection. As a child he had multiple medical problems, including the debilitating poliomyelitis, which all but crippled him. Walking with the aid of sticks was painful and his gait was ungainly.     Memory Lane the Newsletter of The Historic Racing Car Club of Tasmania. Grant Twining's Devione Grant says: - here is my humble jigger when it was brand spanking new in 1969. The Devione LC2 twincam’’ was built in Melbourne during 1968=69 by Denis Lupton and Ian Cook. The car, although sharing the dimensions of a Brabham BT23, was not a replica, having a space frame chassis developed specifically for this car, with hub carriers obtained from a Matra, and powered by a Lotus Ford Twincam. The car first turned a wheel in competition at Calder in 1969, and was run regularly on Victorian circuits, with road trips to Oran Park and Warwick Farm during the early 1970’s. The principal driver was Ian Cook, who ran the car in a number of ‘Gold Star’ rounds as a Formula 2, including the 1971 Australian Grand Prix at Warwick Farm.     Bob Holden in the great race By Paul Watson ob Holden has competed in the great race “34 or 35” times, including his win with Rauno Aaltonen in a Mini Cooper S in 1966. B In the fi rst Armstrong 500, at Phillip Island in 1960, Bob and fellow Peugeot ace Ken Brigden drove a 403 as part of the Continental & General Distributors team. They were fourth in their class (classes were governed by price then), behind class winners Geoff Russell, David Anderson and Tony Loxton, who completed 164 laps. The Vauxhall Cresta of John Roxburgh and Frank Coad (167 laps) is widely regarded as having won the event, although offi cially there was no outright winner. Another 403, driven by Ron Lilley and Jim Gullan, was eighth in class C. In 1961, when the overall winner was a Mercedes 220SE driven by Bob Jane and Harry Firth, 403s fi lled three of the fi rst four places in class C. First were Geoff Russell and Dave Anderson (163 laps), followed by Bill Coe and Ron Lilley (161 laps), with Bob Holden, Ken Brigden and Albert Bridge fourth on 153 laps. Their car had rear-end problems and was twice black- fl agged for spilling fuel on the track. Bill Coe and Syd Fisher’s 404 in the 1963 Armstrong 500, at Bathurst. This car was disqualifi ed but Bob Holden and Bill March took third place in their class in an identical car. Bathurst 1963 entry list.
