A £7.4m partnership project in , North and The East Riding bringing people closer to the world of work, by overcoming barriers and tackling social exclusion. Action Towards Inclusion is the name of a new £7.4m partnership project taking place in the York, and East Riding Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP) area and is managed by Your Consortium in .

Action Towards Inclusion is part of the national Building Better Opportunities (BBO) programme that brings together funding from the Big Lottery Fund and the European Social Fund (ESF) to help tackle the poverty and social exclusion faced by the most disadvantaged people in England. By joining up with ESF, the BBO programme will double the impact of Big Lottery money at a local level and offer a route to European funding for organisations that may have found it difficult to access it in the past.

There are over 50 partners involved in the Action Towards Inclusion project acting as Keyworkers and, in some cases, Intervention Partners.

Action Towards Inclusion has a number of fundamental aims: - Help the most disadvantaged - Tackle social exclusion - Be focused on the capabilities of each individual - Lead to better coordinated services - Create new opportunities for work How Does Action Towards Inclusion Work?

Action Towards Inclusion is based on a Keyworker and Intervention Partner model.

Keyworkers will engage and sign eligible participants onto the project. They will be the main point of contact for participants throughout the Action Towards Inclusion project.

Intervention Partners will provide a range of specific support which will help to remove participants’ barriers.

Who is eligible to take part in the project? Someone is eligibly to receive support if: - They are legally resident in the UK and able to take paid employment in the European Union member states, and they are unemployed or economically inactive

People who are economically inactive (80%) and people who are unemployed (20%). Definitions of these terms are:

Age - this project will predominantly support people aged 18+. Young people aged between 15-18 can be eligible for support but only under specific circumstances so please contact us for more information regarding this. There is no formal upper age limit for participants. However, the overall focus of the programme is to move people towards employment.

Introduction Action Towards Inclusion is a £7.4 million project in York, North Yorkshire and East Riding over the next three years, which is part of the national Building Better Opportunities programme, funded by the Big Lottery Fund and European Social Fund.

It will see 60+ organisations engage with and provide mentoring and support around health, finances and skills to 2,000 of the most disadvantaged individuals in the community who are experiencing a range of complex challenges.

Participants will be economically inactive or unemployed, and through the project we will support individuals to overcome barriers and move closer to employment, as well as addressing a range of social issues such as poverty and social exclusion.

How will it work? Long-term mentoring support will be provided by Keyworkers and specific intervention activities will be delivered by Intervention Partners. The combination of these will enable individuals to overcome barriers and move closer to job-search, training, education and employment.

Keyworker Specific activities to Keyworkers will provide initial engagement, remove barriers provided assessment and ongoing support to participants by Intervention Partners on the programme. Specific project activities will include: Financial Inclusion Debt Advice - Outreach activities to engage participants Crisis Resolution - Holistic assessment of each individual’s needs, Digital Skills to Manage followed by tailored support measures Accounts Online - Sign-posting and referrals to mainstream and other services as necessary - Support to enable access to services for Health Therapy overcoming health related barriers Counselling - Accessible support to become work-ready Wellbeing Activities

Do you know someone who requires 1:1 mentoring support to move them towards employment?

Eligibility: 18 years or older, legally allowed to work in the UK

The key worker will be based at Craven College and will flexibly meet the needs of the Craven community by offering mentoring and support through a one to one service to meet the needs of the individual. Specific project activities can include: - Outreach activities to engage and encourage the participants - An open door policy with advice and guidance, will work on a 1:1 basis, with an empathic and non-judgemental view - Holistic assessment of each individual’s needs, followed by a tailored support plan with realistic goals set out with and by the participants - To support and guide participants to access other services and agencies - To further support the participants in enabling them to access services to help overcome health-related barriers - To help the participant in the undertaking of, volunteering, educational studies, or being work-ready - To give continued support to participant within the areas they have chosen

Craven College is in a unique position as not only have they got the services of a keyworker, they are also in a position to support participants on the programme with a variety of vocational studies, to support the participants to break down perceived barriers, to instil confidence in their own ability to move towards being either work- ready or to access full or part-time education.

We also have financial support for the participants to help support them within the project, including child care and travel costs.

Some of the activities and support the College can offer: - Maths, English & ICT which are a key part of a participant’s CV to gain employment

The College can also offer vocational tasters, workshops, have-a-go sessions in: - Agriculture & Countryside - Animals - Arts, Fashion & Photography - Beauty & Nail Technology - Business - Construction - Cookery - First Aid - Hairdressing - Mind, Body & Soul
