Since 2009, the Burbank International Film Festival has promoted up-and-coming filmmakers from around the world by providing a gateway to expand their careers in the entertainment industry. Jeff Rector President / Artistic Director

Jeff is an award-winning filmmaker and actor. His feature film “Revamped” which he wrote, directed and produced, is currently being distributed worldwide. Jeff’s first short film “Fatal Kiss” won awards for “Best Screenplay”, “Best Director”, “Best Picture” and was one of the first short films ever acquired by HBO. Jeff’s TV credits include “How I Met Your Mother”, “The Bold and the Beautiful”, “”, “NYPD Blue” and “Beverly Hills 90210” to name a few. Jeff is a member of the Television Academy and is the spokesman for the Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy and Horror Films that produce the Annual Awards. Jeff served his community for five years on The Toluca Lake Neighborhood Council and other charitable organizations and committees. Jeff was recently elected as a board member for the Burbank Cultural Arts Commission.

The 2016 Burbank International Film Festival Opening Night Gala begins with media and red carpet arrivals, followed by the opening night screening of “The Wave”. Hosted by NBC personality Fritz Coleman Burbank Mayor Jess Talamantes will give opening remarks along with other local dignitaries and special guests. A special presentation to the Marshall Family with the Spirit Award to honor the memory and legacy of writer, director, actor, producer and philanthropist, Garry Marshall. This annual award is a collaboration between the Marshall family and the festival. C Garry Marshall Garry Marshall was a veteran producer, director and writer of film, television and theatre. He created, wrote and produced some of television’s most beloved situation , including “,” “Laverne & Shirley,” “Mork & Mindy,” and “.” As a director Mr. Marshall directed such hits as “,” “Beaches,” “Overboard,” “The Princess Diaries 1 & 2,” “Runaway Bride,” and a string of holiday themed films beginning with “Valentine’s Day.” As an actor, Garry has had many guest starring roles, including Louis CK’s show “Louie, “Hot in ”, “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” and most recently, as the father of Oscar on “The Odd Couple.” Mr. Marshall wrote two autobiographies with his daughter, Lori, “Wake Me When It’s Funny” and “My Happy Days in Hollywood”.

Mr. Marshall was passionate about live theatre, and in 1997, with his daughter, Kathleen, built the renowned Falcon Theatre here in Burbank. The Falcon Theatre presents a full season of original plays and productions, mostly comedies.

His play, Shelves, was performed at the Pheasant Run Playhouse in St. Charles, Illinois and a renamed revival of the show, Everybody Say Cheese had a successful premiere run at the Falcon Theatre. The Roast, a play he co-wrote with , ran at the Winter Garden Theater in . In addition, he co-wrote Wrong Turn at Lungfish with , which he then went on to direct in Los Angeles with Hector Elizondo, in , and off-Broadway with George C. Scott.

Garry Marshall has been a dedicated philanthropist throughout his career, and is best known for his signature donation: a park bench. Among the many charities he contributed to are Providence Saint Joseph’s Medical Center, GLAAD, Alzheimer’s Association, Burbank Arts for All, The Saban Community Clinic in Los Angeles (where his wife Barbara was an RN volunteer for 14 years and serves on The Friends Board) and his beloved alma mater, , where he built the Marjorie Ward Marshall Dance Center, named after his mother, and the Barbara and Garry Marshall Studio Wing, named after Garry and his beloved wife of 53 years.

In honor of Garry Marshalls life, creativity, and spirit, The Burbank International Film Festival has created a special festival award honoring Garry as a writer, director, producer, actor, philanthropist, loving husband and father. The first Garry Marshall Spirit Award is being presented to the Marshall family at the festival Opening Night Gala. This award is a collaboration between the Marshall family and the festival, together, to select a new recipient every year. We are proud to honor filmmaker Garry Marshall, his memory, and his legacy. Sunday evening will be the Closing Night Gala Awards Show where we not only acknowledge the award-winning filmmakers, but will honor award-winning industry icons and professionals that have shaped and defined the world of cinema today. The Closing Night Gala will begin with a Media Red Carpet, Hosted Cocktail Reception, and followed by the Festival Honoree Banquet, Hosted Awards Show, and closing night reception under-the-stars.
