He brings AHL, ECHL, and OHL coaching experience to Hershey. Carbery most recently spent the 2017-18 season as an assistant coach with the American Hockey League's Providence Bruins, helping the club to an impressive 45-26-3-2 record. South Division The native of Victoria, British Columbia has ties to the Chocolate and White, serving as the head coach and director of hockey operations for Hershey's ECHL affiliate, the South Carolina Stingrays, from 2011-2016. In his five seasons at the helm, Carbery compiled a 207-115-38 record with the Stingrays, making him the all-time winningest coach in South Carolina history. Carbery was the winner of the John Brophy Award as the ECHL’s Coach of the Year in 2014, and was the runner-up for the award in 2015 and 2016. South Carolina qualified for the Kelly Cup Playoffs in each of Carbery’s five seasons as head coach, and he helped guide the Stingrays to a pair of division titles, and Eastern Conference Finals appearances in 2015 and 2016. Carbery’s 2014-15 team registered an ECHL-record 23-game win streak during the regular season and advanced to the 2015 Kelly Cup Finals, falling in seven games to the Allen Americans. In each of the five seasons under Carbery’s direction, the Stingrays improved their point total. Carbery served as the head coach of the OHL's Saginaw Spirit in 2016-17, and also earned a nod as an assistant coach for Team Canada Black in the 2017 U-17 World Hockey Challenge, working with fellow assistant coach and former Hershey enforcer Louis Robitaille. A forward, Carbery had a four-year professional playing career in the Central Hockey League and the ECHL before joining the coaching ranks. The graduate of St. Norbert College served as an alternate captain for South Carolina during his tenure with the club, and helped the Stingrays to a Kelly Cup title in 2009. Following the conclusion of his playing career, Carbery spent one season as an assistant coach with the Stingrays under former Bear Cail MacLean before being promoted to head coach in 2011. PATRICK WELLAR - ASSISTANT COACH Patrick Wellar returned to Hershey as an assistant coach ahead of the 2018-19 season after playing parts of six seasons with the Bears from 2008-2014. Wellar, a four- time champion and veteran of nearly 750 professional games as a player, is well-known in Hershey. A former defender, Wellar was a stalwart on Hershey's blue line during his playing career. He was part of Hershey's 2010 Calder Cup Championship team that went 60-17-0-3 in regular season play before ultimately claiming the franchise's 11th title. In total, the Carrot River, Saskatchewan native appeared in 260 games with Hershey, scoring 46 points (7 goals, 39 assists), and posting a +24 rating. He also appeared in 36 playoff contests with the club. Following his departure from Hershey, Wellar served as a player/assistant coach with the ECHL's Utah Grizzlies in 2014-15, and Alaska Aces in 2015-16. Upon his retirement, Wellar moved behind the bench permanently as an assistant coach with the ECHL's Cincinnati Cyclones, guiding the club to a 36-29-6-1 record in 2015-16. He joined the ECHL's Reading Royals for the 2017-18 season in the same capacity, helping the club secure a playoff berth with a 39-24-9-0 record, good for a third place in the North Division. Wellar's return to Hershey also reunites him with head coach Spencer Carbery. Wellar was a teammate of Carbery's for parts of two seasons with Hershey's ECHL affiliate, the South Carolina Stingrays. The duo teamed up to guide the Stingrays to a Kelly Cup title in 2009. In his 12-year playing career, Wellar, a 3rd round selection of the Capitals in 2002, amassed over 300 games in the AHL, making stops in Peoria, Worcester, Toronto, and Hershey. His resume also includes 441 games at the ECHL level, including an All-Star Game appearance in 2005. Wellar is one of just four players to win the Kelly Cup Championship three times. In addition to his title in South Carolina, he was victorious with Alaska in 2006 and Reading in 2013. MIKE EASTWOOD - ASSISTANT COACH Mike Eastwood joined the Bears as an assistant coach in July 2018. A former center, Eastwood brings 13-years of NHL experience to Hershey. Eastwood spent three seasons with the Ottawa 67's of the Ontario Hockey League, serving as an assistant coach in 2014-15 before being promoted to associate coach. In each of Eastwood's three years in Ottawa, the club qualified for the playoffs. With the 67's, Eastwood played a pivotal role in developing prospects, including current Philadelphia Flyers forward Travis Konecny, and Kody Clark, a 2018 second round draft selection of Washington. The Ottawa, Ontario native played 13 seasons in the NHL from 1991-2004, scoring 236 points (87 goals, 149 assists) in 783 career games with Toronto, Winnipeg, Phoenix, the New York Rangers, St. Louis, Chicago, and Pittsburgh. He also skated in 97 career playoff games, scoring 19 points.

    ICE HOCKEY MANUAL 2019 2019 Trans-Tasman Challenge Ice Hockey Series presented by Queenstown Resort College Dates: 5, 6, and 7 September 2018 Time: Doors Open 6.00pm, Warm Up 6.12pm, Puck Drop 7pm Venue: Queenstown Ice Arena, Queenstown, New Zealand Teams: New Zealand’s Ice Blacks vs Australia’s Mighty Roos The New Zealand Ice Hockey Federation and Winter Games NZ in association with the Queenstown Resort College are proud to present the Trans-Tasman Challenge; a three-game test series of international ice hockey 5, 6, and 7 September 2019 in Queenstown, New Zealand. The 2019 Trans-Tasman Challenge brings together New Zealand and Australia, two rival sporting nations, as part of the 10th Winter Games NZ. New Zealand and Australia last met at the 2017 and 2018 Winter Games NZ. Each country has won the three-game series twice, New Zealand's Ice Blacks in 2009 and 2018 and Australia's Mighty Roos in 2011 and 2017. The Mighty Roos will be out for redemption while the Ice Blacks will want to, once again, prove their superiority on home ice. The three-game test series promises action-packed, edge of your seat excitement with all the passion you’d expect when there’s Trans-Tasman pride on the line. New Zealand’s Ice Blacks and Australia’s Mighty Roos, international ice hockey underdogs that punch well above their weight, have both recently returned from the 2019 IIHF World Championship Division II Group A and B tournaments. New Zealand are ranked 40th and Australia are currently ranked 35th in the world of international ice hockey.

June 25 – June 29, 2019 Capitals Development Camp Notes The Washington Capitals will host their 2019 Prospect Development Camp CAMP SCHEDULE from June 25 to June 29, 2019 at MedStar Capitals Iceplex. All on-ice sessions are free and open to the public. Tuesday, June 25 9 a.m.: On ice (Arlington rink) Capitals development camp is an annual, week-long summer session with 9 a.m.: On ice (Capitals rink) on- and off-ice workouts designed to help Capitals prospects improve their 2:45 p.m.: Goalies on ice (Capitals rink) games and allow the Capitals to evaluate their progress. This is the 13th 3:15 p.m.: All players on ice (Capitals rink) consecutive year that the camp is being held at MedStar Capitals Iceplex. 4:30 p.m.: Media availability Past development camps have been held in Odenton, Md., and Hershey, 7 p.m.: Washington Capitals Alumni Pa. HOCKEY AMBASSADOR AWARD SAINT PAUL, Minn. – The Minnesota All Sports Alliance today announced the Top Ten Candidates for the 37th Annual Mr. Hockey Award are: Carter Batchelder (Eden Prairie), Cam Boche (Lakeville South), Jackson Hallum (St. Thomas Academy), Kyle Kukkonen (Maple Grove), Luke Levandowski (Rosemount), Luke Mittelstadt (Eden Prairie), Henry Nelson (Maple Grove), Joe Palodichuk (Hill-Murray), Jack Peart (Grand Rapids) and Joey Pierce (Hermantown). The Minnesota All Sports Alliance also announced today that Aksel Reid (Blake), Alex Timmons (Gentry Academy) and Jack Wieneke (Maple Grove) are the finalists for The Frank Brimsek Award, in recognition of the state’s top senior goaltender. Henry Boucha is the recipient of the fourth annual Mr. Hockey Ambassador Award, given to an influential leader dedicated to the growth and development of hockey in Minnesota.
