HOCKEY AWARD ANNOUNCED HENRY BOUCHA RECIPIENT OF MR. HOCKEY AMBASSADOR AWARD SAINT PAUL, Minn. – The Minnesota All Sports Alliance today announced the Top Ten Candidates for the 37th Annual Mr. Hockey Award are: Carter Batchelder (Eden Prairie), Cam Boche (Lakeville South), Jackson Hallum (St. Thomas Academy), Kyle Kukkonen (Maple Grove), Luke Levandowski (Rosemount), Luke Mittelstadt (Eden Prairie), Henry Nelson (Maple Grove), Joe Palodichuk (Hill-Murray), Jack Peart (Grand Rapids) and Joey Pierce (Hermantown). The Minnesota All Sports Alliance also announced today that Aksel Reid (Blake), Alex Timmons (Gentry Academy) and Jack Wieneke (Maple Grove) are the finalists for The Frank Brimsek Award, in recognition of the state’s top senior goaltender. Henry Boucha is the recipient of the fourth annual Mr. Hockey Ambassador Award, given to an influential leader dedicated to the growth and development of hockey in Minnesota. The 37th annual Mr. Hockey Awards Banquet will be held virtually starting at 4 p.m. on Monday, April 5 at TRIA Rink in downtown Saint Paul and hosted by Katie Emmer. Click here for the Zoom link. The Minnesota State High School League Boys’ Hockey Tournament will be held at Xcel Energy Center March 30-31 and April 2-3. The Minnesota Wild sponsor the Mr. Hockey Awards Banquet. The Mr. Hockey Award is hosted, coordinated, and presented by the Minnesota All Sports Alliance. The Mr. Hockey Award is given to the outstanding senior high school boys’ hockey player in the state of Minnesota and is selected by a panel of National Hockey League Scouts, Junior Scouts/Coaches and selected media members from around the state. Four other awards will be presented at the banquet: The Frank Brimsek Award, The John Mariucci Award, given to the Class A and Class AA high school coaches of the year, The Cliff Thompson Award, presented to the “Old Timer Coach” of the year and the Mr. Hockey Ambassador Award. Named to the 1990s squad were forwards Greg Johnson of North Dakota, Brian Bonin of Minnesota and Brian Swanson of Colorado College; defensemen Mike Crowley of Minnesota and Nick Naumenko of North Dakota and goaltender Karl Goehring of North Dakota. The five skaters combined for 337 goals, 680 assists and 1,017 during their collegiate careers while Goehring posted a .918 save percentage and a 2.23 GAA for the Fighting Sioux during his time in Grand Forks. The WCHA will announce its 1990s Coach of the Decade on Feb. 17 and its Player of the Decade on Feb. 18. The 1990s team is the fifth of seven squads that will be announced by the WCHA during the 2020-21 season. The WCHA will also honor an outstanding head coach and player from each decade as the league celebrates 70 Years of Excellence. Hammond, 33 (2/11/88), was assigned to the Minnesota Wild taxi squad on Jan. 13, 2021 and did not appear in a game during the 2020-21 season. He went 16-12-3 with a 2.53 goals-against average (GAA), a .908 save percentage (SV%) and four shutouts in 33 games with the Rochester Americans in the American Hockey League (AHL) in 2019-20. He ranked T-3rd in the AHL in shutouts. The 6-foot-2, 223-pound native of Surrey, B.C., went 19-12-2 with a 2.81 GAA, a .908 SV% and three shutouts in 33 regular season contests with the Iowa Wild in 2018-19. Hammond also posted a 5-6 record with a 2.46 GAA, a .912 SV% and two shutouts in 11 Calder Cup Playoff games in 2019. He is 27-15-6 with a 2.31 GAA, a .923 SV% and four shutouts in 56 career NHL games (49 starts) in parts of five NHL seasons with Ottawa (2013-17) and Colorado (2017-18). Hammond is 1-3 with a 3.00 GAA and a .924 SV% in five career Stanley Cup Playoff games with Ottawa (2014-15) and Colorado (2017-18).
