RESOLUTION KENSPIKER

WHEREAS,KENSPIKERhas been a dedicated public servant, including 28 years as an employee of the City of , 18 years as a LACERSBoardmember, and 28 years as a U.S.Air Force pilot - retiring at the rank of Lieutenant Colonel; and

WHEREAS,KENSPIKER'semployment with the City included 27 years in the Chief Legislative Analyst office, the last 13 years of which he served as the Chief Legislative Analyst before retiring in 1984; and

WHEREAS,some of KENSPIKER'smajor accomplishments while working as the Chief Legislative Analyst include assisting in bringing the Olympics Games to Los Angeles in 1984 and opening the City's first Legislative Advocacy offices in Sacramento and in Washington D.C.;and

WHEREAS,KENSPIKERwas first elected to the LACERSBoard of Administration in September 1995 by retired LACERSMembers to serve a five-year term and was re-elected for three more five-year terms in 2000, 2005, and 2010, completing nearly 18 years of service as a Boardmember before retiring in May 2013; and

WHEREAS,KENSPIKERdistinguished himself on the Board as a fierce advocate for retired Members and their families, their financial future and their health by demanding the highest quality of retirement and health benefits for Members while ensuring the City kept its promise to continue to provide those benefits; and

WHEREAS,KENSPIKERis highly regarded and respected by his fellow Boardmembers and the staff of the Los Angeles City Employees' Retirement System as the senior statesman whose kindness, gentle nature, and light-heartedness did not deter him from speaking his mind with impactful tenor and volume when the time was right to fight for Members' benefits; and

WHEREAS,KENSPIKER'sconsistent passion, loyalty, and enthusiasm to protect and provide those assurances in retirement to the people who dedicated their careers to public service are inspirational and greatly appreciated:

NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVEDthat by the adoption of this resolution, the Los Angeles City Council does hereby recognize and commend KENSPIKERfor the immeasurable contributions he provided to the City,the people of Los Angeles, and especially to the Members of the Los Angeles City Employees' Retirement System and th~' families durin his m ny years of dedicated service. ) /) •

WHEREAS, IDG World Expo is one of the largest event production companies in the U.S. delivering tradeshows for professionals and consumers seeking world-class education, relationships and access to industry-leading products and services; and

WHEREAS, IDG World Expo produces the Electronic Entertainment Expo (); and

WHEREAS, the E3 exhibiting companies include the world's leading interactive entertaimnent companies in an industry that contributed more than $5 billion to the U.S. Gross Domestic Product; and

WHEREAS, the Electronic Entertaimnent Expo (E3) is the world's premiere trade show for computer and video games and related products; and

WHEREAS, E3 has a long history with the City of Los Angeles and will generate $39M in economic impact to the local community; and

WHEREAS, , will be held at the Los Angeles Convention Center on June 11-13,2013:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that on behalf of the Los Angeles City Council, the City of Los Angeles hereby congratulates E3 2013 and declares June 10-14, 2013 as E3 Week.
