Now that the penitential season of Lent at the has passed for another year and the Easter Triduum , (Holy Thursday, Good Community Centre Friday and Holy Saturday) have been celebrated, we celebrate Easter. Christians believe that Christ has died, Christ is Risen and Christ will come again. In the Liturgy we are reading the ac- counts of the appearances of the Risen Lord and the formation of the early church. I hope all readers share in the joy of the Risen Lord and that His Peace and Hope fill your lives and the lives of your loved ones wherever they are right now. The new Papal Nuncio, Archbishop Charles Browne, celebrated the Chrism Mass at our cathedral in Cobh on Wednesday of Holy Week. He led us to believe that it will be a while yet before a new bishop is appointed to Cloyne diocese. On 12th March I received a copy of a Tidy Towns volunteers on a recent clean up letter from the Department of Education and Skills to the Patron of our two pri- mary schools stating that in meeting pro- jected pupil enrolment increases into the Carrigtwohill United Under-10 team future, the Department considers that a before a recent game away to Leeside new 32 classroom school with appropri- ate ancillary accommodation, to accom- modate the proposed amalgamation of the two schools, should be provided, sub- ject to a suitable site being identified and secured. The current schools have not enough space to develop. The site has to be pro- vided by the Patron. This good news announcement is the culmination of over ten years work started by my predecessor, Mons. Denis Reidy and others. Further information should be available, hopefully, for the next volume. God bless all Fr. Anthony O’Brien, P.P. Always feel free to contact me on 4883236/087-6834193 or Fr. Carrigtwohill Community News Issue 17 Summer 2011 Summer 2011 Carrigtwohill Community News 1 Cork County Council Staff Changes Recently Cork County Council made a number of personel changes that affect the Carrigtwohill area. Jerome O’Brien was manager of the Civic Amenity site in Rossmore. While no one welcomes the idea of a “dump” in their backyard Jerome did his best to make the facility as unobtrusive as possible to the residents of the area. Over the years he has endeavoured to assist the community in many ways. An example of this would be his attempts to keep the approach roads to Rossmore litter free. Another example would be, in 2009, when 240 people took part in the community Spring Clean he allowed the Community Council to take the massive amount of rubbish collected to the site at Rossmore. His help and advice will be sorely missed and we wish him the very best in his new position. We welcome Dave Clarke as the new Area Engineer with responsibility for the Carrigtwohill area. From a community development point of view a supportive Area Engineer is vital to Carrigtwohill. We look forward to a successful and fruitful relationship with him. In a changed environment we all realise that public money is not as readily available as before. However, with the encouragement and moral support of the Area Engineer allied to our own hard work, we can achieve much. The new engineer replaces Mr. Michael Savage.
