Cumann Lúthchleas Gael Coiste Chontae Thiobrad Arann Laochra Gael 13th PRESENTATIONS by Iar-Uachtarán Liam Ó Néill at The Dome, Semple Stadium November 15th, 2015 ag tosnú 16.30pm 1 Cumann na Sean Ghael - Coiste Chontae Thiobrad Arann INAUGURAL MEETING Thurles, April 23th, 2003 he inaugural meeting of Cumann na Sean Ghael, Coiste Chontae Thiobrad Arann, was held in Hayes’s Hotel, Thurles on April 23, 2003. The attendance included John Moloney, Noel Morris, John Costigan, Pat Moroney, Seamus J., King and Michael TO’Meara. Seamus McCarthy was unable to be present. At the outset John Moloney was unanimously appointed chairman amd Michael O’Meara secretary. The chairman outlined the aims of the group, which were chiefly to honour annually persons over 70 years of age, who had given significant service to the G.A.A. in whatever capacity - player, official, groundsman, jersey carrier, tea maker, referee, umpire, etc. A sample of a framed certificate, which was presented annually in Dublin, was shown by the chairman to the meeting and the secretary undertook to get quotations for same. It was agreed that approximately 40 annual presentations would be made, i.e. an average of 10 per division. The consensus was that the general public should be asked to nominate suitable persons and justify why they were considered worthy. It was agreed that the presentations would be made in Brú Ború, Cashel on November 16th or 23rd and that the evening’s programme would consist of a chat, light refreshments and entertainment before the presentations. It was also agreed that the wives of the recipients be invited to the presentations. -

A sporting and exciting final is envisaged with the pairing of Clonoulty Rossmore and Knockavilla Kickhams. Since 1992 either of these clubs have contested the West final but we must go back to 1954 for the last occasion on which they played against each other. It is most unusual to find two teams who have been so prominent at divisional and Co. level having to wait 48 years 10 meel in a West final. The curtain raiser to-day promises to be lively and entertaining with the pairing of AherlowlEmly and Knockavilla Kickhams. Both leams have come through a vigorous campaign to reach the final and should be well up for the game. -

The College GAA Connection Dunamaggin and St. Kieran's
The College GAA Connection Dunamaggin and St. Kieran's College On Sunday 16th April last, two young Dunamaggin men contributed significantly to St. Kieran's College defeating St. Flannan's College, Ennis in the All Ireland Colleges Senior A hurling final. That win gave the College a record 14 Croke Cup titles. The crucial score was a fine individual goal hard earned and well taken by Liam Heffernan from Caherleske. He was assisted by Seaghan O'Neill, who also contributed mightily to a famous Colleges victory. These two, of course, have become accustomed to winning championships in recent years with outstanding Dunamaggin underage teams. In an article of this length it would be impossible to mention every student from Dunnamaggin parish who played hurling and football for the College because there has been a long tradition of students and seminarians who wore the black and white hoops. Students from the parish of Dunnamaggin have played hurling in St. Kieran's College since the beginnings of the school in the early nineteenth century. However Gaelic Games were not formally organised among the Colleges until 1905 and it was only at that stage hurling superseded rugby as the principle game in the school. St. Kierans first took part in the Leinster Colleges championships in hurling and football in 1922. But it was not until 1941 that a Dunnamaggin player featured on a St. Kieran's winning Leinster side. That was Pat O'Neill of Ballintee who played at wing forward on a team captained by Tommy Maher (later Monsignor). Monsignor Pat, now a retired pastor in California, presented Dunnamaggin club with their Clubman of the year trophy. -
Imreoir to Bainisteoir Exhibition Launched at the GAA Museum
Imreoir to Bainisteoir exhibition Launched at the GAA museum The GAA Museum’s new exhibition celebrates individuals to have won All-Ireland titles as both a player and manager including six camogie recipients Few GAA players win All-Ireland medals and even fewer go on to repeat the feat as a team manager. A new exhibition at the GAA Museum celebrates this unique club of players. Imreoir to Bainisteoir features memorabilia, film footage and imagery from the 30 players who have achieved All-Ireland success both on the field and from the sidelines. There are 13 hurlers, 11 footballers and six camogie players who have claimed All-Ireland medals as a player and manager. The group includes legends such as Mick O’Dwyer, Kevin Heffernan, Brian Cody and Ann Downey. Imreoir to Bainisteoir recognises the amazing achievements of these players and gives fans the opportunity to remember some of the most exciting players and teams in the history of Gaelic Games. Speaking at today’s launch Uachtarán Chumann Lύthchleas Gael, Aogán Ó Fearghail said: “It is with great pride that I open this new exhibition and I hope GAA fans from Ireland and beyond will visit and celebrate these GAA Legends. All sporting codes need heroes and without doubt, the players honoured here are some of the greatest of all time. It will be interesting to see if a new name will be added to this unique group anytime soon!” Players showcased in the exhibition have achieved their double success in different ways. Mick O’Dwyer led Kerry to eight All-Ireland titles in 13 seasons and won four All-Irelands with the Kingdom as a player. -
