(05) EL TRAZADO IDEAL Y LOS CONDICIONANTES NATURALES EN EL DESARROLLO URBANO DE LA PLATA Gustavo Vallejo* Resumen El trazado urbano de La Plata, objeto hoy de gestiones dirigidas a declararlo Patrimonio de la Humanidad, como es sabido ofrece una abrumadora cantidad de certezas en relación a su origen, pudiendo reconocerse incluso cada una de las modificaciones seguidas en la etapa de proyectación tras producirse el encargo de Rocha al Departamento de Ingenieros de la Provincia de Buenos Aires, a través de la abundante cantidad de documentos cartográficos que trabajos históricos como los de Morosi (1983) y De Paula (1987) se encargaron de reunir. Sin embargo menos conocido resulta el modo en que, aquello que Martínez Estrada calificaría como un mero “espacio geométrico”, “la categoría apriorístiea de una serie de fenómenos” que debían aparecer para darle vida, se corporizó, superando la tensión implícita de un proceso que tiene a su racionalidad, imponiéndose o adaptándose a las características naturales del sitio en el que fue implantado. It offers an overwhelming quantity of certainties in relation with their origin from the commission of Rocha to Dcpartamento de Ingenicros. On that trace we can recognize each one of the modifications that it suffered during the proyectacion stage in the abundant quantity of cartographic documents compiled by Morosi (1983) and De Paula (1987). Lofeudo2 1.- Investigadora Adjunta CONICET-LEMIT 2.- CIC-LEMIT RESUMEN 61 A fines del siglo XIX y primera mitad del siglo XX, diversos representantes de la alta sociedad argentina fueron sepultados en criptas por tener títulos pontificios o haber donado iglesias, pero el caso del Dr. Dardo Rocha y su esposa Paula Arana de Rocha es totalmente distinto. En un primer momento, los restos del destacado político y militar, que fue Gobernador de la Provincia de Buenos Aires y fundador de La Plata, se depositaron en el Cementerio de la Recoleta en la bóveda de la familia Rocha junto a los de su esposa, tal como él mismo lo había solicitado. Aduciendo este argumento, los descendientes se negaron al traslado a la Catedral de La Plata, como lo solicitaban el gobierno provincial y los habitantes de la ciudad, que deseaban rendirle un justo homenaje. Finalmente, en el año 1940, se decide el traslado mediante Decreto 239 del 17 de julio, que se concreta el 19 de noviembre de ese año. Esto significó la necesidad de adaptar la estructura de hormigón que sostiene el piso de la Catedral, quedando las vigas y columnas encubiertas por elementos neogóticos revestidos en símil piedra. Como no se había completado la cripta prevista debajo del presbiterio (obra no realizada), usual en las catedrales neo medievales, se dispuso que provisoriamente se preparara un espacio adecuado debajo del ingreso de la nave, donde se encuentra en la actualidad.

    LA ARQUITECTURA “MONUMENTAL” DE LA CIUDAD DE LA PLATA A TRAVES DEL EJERCICIO INDEPENDIENTE DE LOS PROFESIONALES ITALIANOS DURANTE EL PERIODO FUNDACIONAL. EL CASO DEL “EJE AVENIDA MONTEVERDE” Arq. Fabiana Andrea Carbonari1 (FAU - UNLP) Este trabajo forma parte del proyecto de investigación “La vida de los edificios. Transformaciones y devenir histórico de la arquitectura “monumental” de la ciudad de La Plata”2, que se desarrolla en el HiTePAC –Historia, Teoría y Praxis de la Arquitectura y la Ciudad, Instituto de Investigación--. En forma paralela, constituye uno de los lineamientos del Trabajo Final de Carrera3 “Presencia italiana en la conformación del paisaje urbano fundacional de la ciudad de La Plata (1882-1932)”, que he presentado y ha sido evaluado favorablemente durante el ciclo lectivo 2009. Actualmente podemos considerar que el patrimonio construido fundacional de la ciudad de La Plata es producto tangible que hunde sus raíces en las múltiples y complejas relaciones que se dan al finalizar el siglo XIX en el medio local. En virtud de ello para poder abordar su estudio es necesario implementar, como metodología de trabajo, la indagación profunda de las vinculaciones existentes entre el orden político, el socio-cultural, las tendencias productivas y el tratamiento de las estructuras urbano-territoriales. El paisaje urbano4 y las arquitecturas que lo caracterizan, entendidos como espacios de representación del orden gubernamental en un medio en formación, llegarán a ser materializados a través del significativo aporte inmigratorio. En virtud de la heterogeneidad y amplitud del que entendemos como período fundacional –los cincuenta primeros años de vida de la “Nueva Capital” - así como a la disparidad de estudios y bibliografía que se ocupan de la cuestión, se propone, para esta presentación, un recorte temático y temporal referido exclusivamente al rol cumplido por los profesionales italianos durante la etapa inmediata al momento de la fundación de la ciudad de La Plata en un sector característico del Casco Urbano.

Leguizamón.- FUNDAMENTOS Señor Presidente: Algunas de las palabras pronunciadas por el fundador de La Plata, Dardo Rocha, al momento de colocar la piedra fundamental de la nueva comuna el 19 de noviembre de 1882 fueron: "Hemos dado a la nueva capital el nombre del río magnífico que la baña, y depositamos bajo esta piedra, esperando que aquí queden sepultadas para siempre, las rivalidades, los odios, los rencores, y todas las pasiones que han retardado por tanto tiempo la prosperidad de nuestro país". Este fragmento del discurso de Dardo Rocha supo sintetizar la historia que llevó a crear la flamante ciudad, considerada como una prenda de la unión nacional; y a la vez poner en evidencia la esperanza en su porvenir. El proceso político que conduce a la fundación de La Plata se inicia en febrero de 1880, con la sanción de la ley que proclamaba a la ciudad de Buenos aires, hasta entonces capital de la provincia del mismo nombre, Capital Federal de la República Argentina. La cesión a la Nación de la ciudad puerto provocó una división entre los hombres públicos de la provincia; el enfrentamiento entre autoridades nacionales y provinciales no tardó en producirse.
