The average was up by 17 per cent to €187,039 and the median by 16 per cent to €125,000, both figures also sale records. Monceaux sold 29 yearlings for a total of €10,251,000, leading the consignors, while the leading purchasers were Godolphin, whose eight yearlings cost €4,945,000, and Amanda Skiffington, who signed for six lots for an outlay of €2,305,000. The largest consignors this year are Haras des Capucines (49 lots), Haras des Monceaux (40), Haras d’Etreham (31) and La Motteraye (29), while the most numerously-represented sires are Wootton Bassett (34 lots), new boy Almanzor (32), Dabirsim and Siyouni (30 each) and Shalaa (26). A triple winner up to Listed level at two, he started 2017 by winning the Gr.3 Prix de Fontainebleau and Mares followed up in both French Classics, getting up in the last stride to win the Gr.1 Poule d’Essai des Poulains and the Gr.1 Prix du Jockey Club, both by a short head. He is out of a winning half-sister to the multiple Champion Sire Monsun. Haras de Bouquetot’s ECTOT (Hurricane Run) ended his juvenile campaign with four victories in a row, including the Gr.3 Prix des Chênes and then the Gr.1 Critérium International. Successful in the Gr.3 Prix de Fontainebleau on his 2014 reappearance, he was off the track until the autumn, when he won the Gr.2 Prix Niel, and only had three runs again at four, including a third at Gr.3 level. Switched to the US at five, he landed a turf Gr.1 over 1m4f at Belmont Park, beating multiple Gr.1 winner Flintshire by five lengths. The half-brother to the Gr.1- winning miler Most Improved has two yearlings catalogued. Mastercraftsman’s son THE GREY GATSBY raced 28 times from two to six, but surprisingly, given his earnings of some £2.7m, only won four races. They, however, did include the Gr.2 28 Million Guineas+ Dante Stakes, Gr.1 Prix du Jockey Club and Gr.1 Irish Champion Mares Since 2014 Stakes at three, and he was second in four more Gr.1s and third in France 3, Ireland 2 yet another. He was a Gr.2 runner-up from two starts at three and scored at Listed level on his only run at 81 lots sold for 200k gns+ four.
