Wardian London Factsheet an Overview of the Salient Information FACTSHEET INTRODUCTION EcoWorld and Ballymore are thrilled to present Wardian London, one of the most visionary projects London has seen in recent years. In the last thirty years Canary Wharf has been transformed, and remarkably so. Guided by one of the boldest redevelopment masterplans the world has seen, it has now surpassed the City of London as Europe’s leading financial district. Wardian London will be part of this success story. Combining modern architecture with innovative landscaping, it sets a new standard for the high-rise living experience – put simply, a tranquil haven of nature in the heart of London’s new financial centre. The unique partnership between EcoWorld and Ballymore is behind some of the most notable buildings in London. 2 THE VISION WARDIAN CASE WARDIAN The towers’ design has been inspired by the work of one Londoner, the great explorer, botanist, and inventor, Nathaniel Bagshaw Ward. A doctor by trade, he changed the world with his botanical glass container, the deceptively simple-looking ‘Wardian case’, and while contemporary renderings of that aesthetic are a defining feature of Wardian, the influence goes beyond the mere visible. The vision for Wardian is to take inspiration from his curiosity, his spirit of adventure and his sense of precision, and to create the most exciting new development in the British capital. 3 THE VISION In the midst of the skyscrapers and waterways of Canary Wharf, Wardian London offers an oasis of nature. Comprising two iconic apartment towers, a new address like no other, a haven of peace and beauty in the heart of London. APARTMENT TYPE WEST TOWER EAST TOWER TOTAL Suites 48 124 172 1-Bed 48 124 172 2-Bed 100 180 280 3-Bed 4 1 5 Total Units 200 429 629 4 THE DESIGN WARDIAN ENTRANCE WARDIAN Wardian London is an architectural triumph, drawing from the heyday of modernist architecture and the finest elements of modern building design. The formal, bold lines of a visionary man-made geometry are complemented by the organic, verdant shapes of nature. On the skyline, beheld from a distance, the two modernist-influenced towers are striking yet simple, refined and yet ambitious, with a glimpse of green hinting at the wonders within. As the entrance is approached, Wardian’s stunning botanical features and architectural details begin to reveal themselves. This is a feast for the senses, especially for residents, who benefit from apartment and garden designs maximised to achieve the best possible use of space and light. The ethos of discovery meets the promise of an oasis of tranquility in the new centre of London. 5 TRANSPORT LINKS Hyde Park Westfield 31 min Stratford City St Pancras 11 min International Victoria Park Trains to France, Belgium 26 min and The Netherlands 24 min Olympic Park City of London 29 min 12 min London City Airport Bond Street 20 min 14 min Buckingham O2 Arena Palace 6 min 23 min Royal Tate TRAVEL TIMES BY TUBE TIMES BY TRAVEL Observatory Modern 20 min 17 min Heathrow Thames Barrier International Park Airport 24 min 39 min TRANSPORT LINKS JOURNEY TIMES FROM HERON QUAYS Source: Transport for London OVERGROUND – Canary Wharf train station offering Limehouse 6 mins immediate access to the underground and the DLR line is within a 6 minute walk. • The Single-‐Minded Project Rethinking Project
Edmund D’Souza PMP London Committee Join Globally – Connect Locally PMI UK Chapter Wednesday 3 September 2014 The Single-Minded Project Rethinking Project Organisation A London Evening Meeting at 6pm for 6:30pm start There can surely be little doubt that it is the behaviour of people and that of their project organisation that determines a project’s pace of progress. Martin Price’s claim in his book “The Single-Minded Project” is that human and social factors are the principal sources of both project success and difficulty. Methodology, tools and techniques are vital. However they are subordinate to the reality of this kind of endeavour, so often challenged by their complexity and uncertainty. This is true if only because the comprehension of a project’s purpose, the deployment and application of methodology and the application of standards, wholly depend on the ability, engagement, collaboration and ethos of the project’s players. What counts in securing project success and reliability are the choices made by players regarding what is to be done, how it is to be done, and how changes will be implemented in the light of events and issues that arise. The circumstances of any project venture depend on the players’ human and organisational behaviour and their professional conduct. Only people (or ‘players’), either individually and in groups, can be expected to properly appreciate a requirement and its context, engage together with the issues, execute the work, and manage the pace of progress. In practice, a primary challenge for any project organisation is its capacity for adaptation. In this meeting, Martin will lead a discussion around a project organisation’s dialogue, collaboration, adaptation, resolve, persistence and rigour - which all depend on the players’ ability and standing.
