This program provides blank holiday cards with a stamp on each envelope to give to members of the Armed Services that are wounded, ill or injured staying at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center and Fort Belvoir Community Hospital or Veterans being served by the VA. Each service member will receive one bundle of three cards to send to their loved ones on special holidays. i.e. Mother’s Day, Christmas, Hanukkah or Kwanza. We ask that all three cards in a bundle be for the same holiday, whether it is for Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanza or Mother’s Day. For example: 51 cards would provide 17 service members with blank cards to send to their loved ones. See sample below: Items to include in each bundle: • 3 blank holiday cards (same holiday per bundle)—no glitter, please. • 3 blank envelopes with postage stamp. • 1 personalized message to the service member– please leave individual cards blank. • Bundled with ribbon. This program provides service members who during their stay at Walter Reed and Fort Belvoir are unable to purchase holiday cards to send to their families across the country. Please join us in supporting our Heroes and their families over the holiday season.

There will be a box in the back of the church for your card bundles. We need to have these bundles back by Wednesday, Novem- ber 14th. We will then send the completed bundles to: American Red Cross in the National Capital Region, 8550 Arlington Blvd., Fairfax, VA 22031. They will need to receive them by Wednesday, November 28th.

CONFIRMATION CANDIDATES...The Confirmation Candidate (and hopefully the rest of the family) must have a sincere intention of participat- ing in Mass every week. Participating in the Eucharistic life of the community is both a privilege and an obligation of baptized Catholics. This is also an important way that parents demonstrate to their children the importance they place on the faith they are handing on to their children. When we worship as a community, we build up the Body of Christ. If your family has not been attending Mass regularly in the past, we are confident that by doing so you will notice many benefits to your family by the time Confirmation approaches. Confirmation Mass attendance cards are found on the back table. Please fill out each week and drop in the collection plate. As a parish, we are grateful to those parishioners who give of their time serving in a ministry during Mass. In recent months we have experienced a significant amount of liturgical minister no-shows. The ministry schedule is published in the bulletin the weekend prior to the first weekend of the next month. Be sure to notify the parish office at (979) 742-3383 of any known scheduling issues, such as vacations, business, etc. that would make you unavailable on a certain day or time peri- od for the coming month, so the schedule may be prepared appropriately. Please report NO LATER than 15 minutes prior to the Mass start time. This will reduce the turmoil that arises in trying to find a replacement in such a very short notice. It is your responsibility to attempt to find a replacement when you are scheduled but cannot serve. A list of all the ministers and their phone numbers can be found in the Priest’s Sacristy. You can use this list to help find a replacement. If you are not assigned to help at Mass that day and would like to assist if needed, please check in before Mass begins. Appearance is important in the Church. We encourage you to always dress like you have come to do something important, that is, to worship God. That way if you need to fill in as a minister, you will be properly dressed. Thanks for doing what you are doing. It is a great service to the parish and all of the effort you make is deeply appreciated.

*If anyone is interested in volunteering for any of our ministries or have questions, please contact the Parish Office at (979) 742-3383. Altar Duty for October 2018
