Radhakrishnan New Hindu Secularism I Recent research has shown that Swami Vivekananda was much more indebted to tll.e Brahmo Samaj for his religious awakening than is commonly realized. It is from this contact that his warm appreciation of Christ is to be traced. It is signi ficant that -Swami Vivekananda inaugurated the Ramakrishna Mission. after his master's death, on Christmas Eve. But we touch the heart of Vivekananda's interpretation of Christ when we note three things. First, his approach to Christ was not that of a seeker but that of one who found satisfaction in philosophical-mystical Hinduism. Second, he is influenced by a certain historical scepticism, due apparently to being influenced by the Christ-myth speculation of the late nine.teenth century. Third, he viewed everything at all times from the angle ' In the period before us, there are two other outstanding names: Dr. Bhagavan Das of the Banaras Hindu University, and Shri Aurobindo of the Poridicherry Ashram. Neither of these ·gave much sustained atten tion to the Christ theme. Shri .Aurobindo's 'integralism' is of growing East-West significance. -

Thus he will maintain the upper planetary system by inducing the citizens to perform Vedic sacrifices. In due course of time he will also maintain this earthly planet by discharging proper rainfall. Muralidhara Dasa This King Prithu will be as powerful as the sun- god, and just as the sun-god equally distributes sunshine to everyone, King Prithu will distribute his mercy equally. Similarly, just as the sun-god evaporates water for eight months and, during the rainy season, returns it profusely, this King will also exact taxes from the citizens and return these monies in times of need. -

III ||August. 2018 || PP 22-26 Gender equality and ancient Indian culture: A study Atasi Mahapatra Assistant Professor, Department of PhilosophySahid Matangini Hazra Govt. College for women W.B, India. ABSTRACT: This paper demonstrate notion of gender equality, and its nature as well as status of women in ancient Indian culture. Gender equality between men and women means that different behaviour; aspirations and needs of women and men are considered, valued and favoured equally. But in ancient India specially, in Indus valley civilization, women had a respectable position in society. In early Vedic period, there was plethora of Goddesses to respect for women. In Vedic society women participated in religious ceremony and tribal assemblies. Widows could remarry and child marriages were unknown in society. But, in the later Vedic period, the position of women gradually deteriorated. The period clearly sees the growing tendency to stratify society along gender lines. Women lost their political rights. Child marriage, the system of Sati emerged in the shape of a formal custom during later Vedic period. But in Buddhist and Jain culture women were accorded respect and their rightful place in society.
