MARVIN H. MICKEY EDWARDS MARVIN H. MICKEY EDWARDS, Republican. Born in Oklahoma City July 12, 1937, Edwards graduated from Capitol Hill High School in 1954 and received his degree in Journalism from the University of Oklahoma in 1958. In 1969, he received his Juris Doctorate from Oklahoma City University Law School and was admitted to the bar in 1970. He was an Assistant City Editor al the Oklahoma City Times; a law instructor at Oklahoma City University and served as an editor for Private Practice Magazine. Elected to the U.S. House of Representatives, November, 1976, Edwards was the first Republican in 48 years to be elected from the Fifth District. He was reelected in 1978 and 1980. He has served on the Appropriations Committee; Subcommittee on Military Construction, on Foreign Operations and was Assistant House Republican Whip; Chairman, American Conservative Union; Vice Chairman, National Republican Congressional Committee and Founder and Chairman, Congressional Sunbelt Caucus. Born November 30, 1940, in Cordell, English attended elementary schools there, graduating from Cordell High School in 1959. He enrolled at Southwestern State College, Weatherford, in 1964, studying general business, accounting and economics. As a petroleum landman, English specializes in oil and gas leasing. He served in the U.S. Army Reserve from 1965 to 1971 as a staff sergeant. English served on the staff of former Oklahoma Congressman Jed Johnson, Jr, and later served as chief assistant of the Majority Caucus in the California State Assembly. In 1969, he served as Executive Director of the Oklahoma Democratic Party until 1973. Elected to Congress from Oklahoma's Sixth District in 1974, he was reelected in 1976, 1978 and 1980. In the 97th Congress, English serves on the Government Operations and Agriculture Committees and the Select Committee on Narcotics Abuse and Control. Subcommittee assignments under Government Operations will be: Government Activities and Transportation and Intergovernmental Relations of Human Resources. Subcommittee work within the Agriculture Committee will be Livestock and Grain as well as Conservation and Credit. Glenn and his wife, Jan Pangle, make their home in Cordell and have two children, John Lee and Tyler Janene.
