Creative Movement Sequencing Once you have finished teaching your movement education concepts to your students (Locomotor, relationships, pathways, balances etc…) a neat way to incorporate assessment of these movements in isolation and in conjunction with others, would be to develop a creative movement sequence. The following lesson(s) map out such an exercise. Equipment: Music Player with random selection of music (Techno, Country, Rock, Folk, Classical, etc…) Paper and Pencils 1. Have students, in their own personal space combine 3 movements (concepts) with 2 balances (poses) into a sequence… have them practice and record this on paper. 2. After sufficient practice and movement sequence is recorded, pair students up and have each teach the other their sequence. 3. Once the sequences have been taught have the student pairs combine their sequences anyway they want and add 3 more movements (concepts) and 2 more balances (poses). 4. This continues until you have 4 large groups, 2 large groups or one whole class movement sequence.

  • James Baldwin As a Writer of Short Fiction: an Evaluation
JAMES BALDWIN AS A WRITER OF SHORT FICTION: AN EVALUATION dayton G. Holloway A Dissertation Submitted to the Graduate School of Bowling Green State University in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of DOCTOR OF PHILOSOPHY December 1975 618208 ii Abstract Well known as a brilliant essayist and gifted novelist, James Baldwin has received little critical attention as short story writer. This dissertation analyzes his short fiction, concentrating on character, theme and technique, with some attention to biographical parallels. The first three chapters establish a background for the analysis and criticism sections. Chapter 1 provides a biographi cal sketch and places each story in relation to Baldwin's novels, plays and essays. Chapter 2 summarizes the author's theory of fiction and presents his image of the creative writer. Chapter 3 surveys critical opinions to determine Baldwin's reputation as an artist. The survey concludes that the author is a superior essayist, but is uneven as a creator of imaginative literature. Critics, in general, have not judged Baldwin's fiction by his own aesthetic criteria. The next three chapters provide a close thematic analysis of Baldwin's short stories. Chapter 4 discusses "The Rockpile," "The Outing," "Roy's Wound," and "The Death of the Prophet," a Bi 1 dungsroman about the tension and ambivalence between a black minister-father and his sons. In contrast, Chapter 5 treats the theme of affection between white fathers and sons and their ambivalence toward social outcasts—the white homosexual and black demonstrator—in "The Man Child" and "Going to Meet the Man." Chapter 6 explores the theme of escape from the black community and the conseauences of estrangement and identity crises in "Previous Condition," "Sonny's Blues," "Come Out the Wilderness" and "This Morning, This Evening, So Soon." The last chapter attempts to apply Baldwin's aesthetic principles to his short fiction.

  • Progressive House: from Underground to the Big Room
PROGRESSIVE HOUSE: FROM UNDERGROUND TO THE BIG ROOM A Bachelor thesis written by Sonja Hamhuis. Student number 5658829 Study Ba. Musicology Course year 2017-2018 Semester 1 Faculty Humanities Supervisor dr. Michiel Kamp Date 22-01-2017 ABSTRACT The electronic dance industry consists of many different subgenres. All of them have their own history and have developed over time, causing uncertainties about the actual definition of these subgenres. Among those is progressive house, a British genre by origin, that has evolved in stages over the past twenty-five years and eventually gained popularity with the masses. Within the field of musicology, these processes have not yet been covered. Therefore, this research provides insights in the historical process of the defining and popularisation of progressive house music. By examining interviews, media articles and academic literature, and supported by case studies on Leftfield’s ‘Not Forgotten’ en the Swedish House Mafia’s ‘One (Your Name)’, it hypothesizes that there is a connection between the musical changes in progressive house music and its popularisation. The results also show that the defining of progressive house music has been - and is - an extensive process fuelled by center collectivities and gatekeepers like fan communities, media, record labels, and artists. Moreover, it suggests that the same center collectivities and gatekeepers, along with the on-going influences of digitalisation, played a part in the popularisation of the previously named genres. Altogether, this thesis aims to open doors for future research on genre defining processes and electronic dance music culture. i TABLE OF CONTENTS Introduction ............................................................................................................... 1 Chapter 1 - On the defining of genre .......................................................................
