  • Gervonta Davis Vs. Hugo Ruiz International Media Conference Call Transcript
Gervonta Davis vs. Hugo Ruiz International Media Conference Call Transcript Kelly Swanson Thank you everybody for joining this call. I’d like to kick the call off and commend Premier Boxing Champions, Mayweather Promotions, TGB Promotions and SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING and the network for saving this really special card that’s going to take place Saturday, February 9. Everybody’s aware of the unfortunate injury to Abner Mares, who was going to fight Gervonta Davis, but fortunately a great replacement was found in Hugo Ruiz. Now I’m going to turn it over to Stephen Espinoza to make opening comments. Stephen Espinoza Thanks very much. By now all of you are aware of the substitution. I don’t think it’s any exaggeration to say that Abner was heartbroken at this development about the injury. The Davis fight was a fight that Abner asked for, that he pursued and is a fight that’s in his backyard. It was well on its way to breaking the attendance record and it remains to be seen whether that will happen or not but certainly had the cards stayed together it almost certainly would have broken the attendance record based on the trajectory of ticket sales. At this point the priority was in fact saving this card. We’ve got a whole host of various fighters who’ve been training very hard for this. They all want to remain active. Davis wants to remain active so it was a priority to save this card and to find the best possible, available opponent. There were a number of options pursued, a number of calls went out to a variety of different fighters.

  • BALTIMORE BOXER GERVONTA “TANK” DAVIS WINS HIS 10Th PRO FIGHT by KO in 47 SECONDS
BALTIMORE BOXER GERVONTA “TANK” DAVIS WINS HIS 10th PRO FIGHT BY KO IN 47 SECONDS BALTIMORE, MARYLAND, U.S.A. – On Friday night, February 20, 2015, Baltimore featherweight professional boxer, Gervonta “Tank” Davis defeated Puerto Rico’s Israel “Macho” Suarez, winning by knockout at 2:13 of Round 1. Moments into the fight, the twenty-year old Davis dropped his opponent with a vicious barrage of punches, ending the contest after just 47 seconds. With the win, Davis’ record moves to 10-0, with 9 knockouts, while Suarez drops to 4-5-2, with 1 knockout. Davis-Suarez was scheduled as a six-round non-televised undercard bout on ShoBox: The New Generation, held at the Consol Energy Center in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Davis and his longtime boxing trainer, Calvin Ford, talked about the win and what Team Davis expects for 2015. Calvin Ford said, “We were well prepared for this fight, and had a solid camp. There was a lot of emotion going into his tenth pro fight. His opponent was game and tried to assert himself early. Gervonta made quick adjustments, and an early knockout was the result. We won our tenth fight in exciting fashion, and now it is time to move to the next level. Gervonta’s ability to listen and buy into the team’s system has improved over the last few fights. The higher levels of this boxing game require more focus and preparation than the lower levels. Competition will be tougher, and we need to continue to fight guys that are going to prepare us for the championship level.

Floyd Mayweather Jr. will be looking to cement his position as the greatest pound-for-pound boxer in history as he comes out of retirement to take on UFC’s most recognised talent and reigning UFC lightweight champion, Conor McGregor. • Baltimore Native Added to Undercard of Mayweather-Mcgregor Fight
Baltimore native added to undercard of Mayweather-McGregor fight Posted by TBNDavid On 08/13/2017 The Mayweather vs Conor McGregor card is beginning to take shape. Mayweather and McGregor, the two biggest names in combat sports, will take part in a multi-million-pound boxing match on August 26. The contest, which has divided opinion in the sporting world, will take place at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. Mayweather's fiftieth professional fight, his first in nearly two years, is expected to shatter the pay-per-view buy record set by his 2015 'Fight of the Century' with Manny Pacquiao. And with the addition of his protege Gervonta Davis to the card, it could very well do so. Davis revealed that he'd be fighting on the undercard of the event in an interview with TMZ on Thursday afternoon. "Yes,” he said when asked if he’d be fighting at the historic event. “I’m the co-main event." “It feels great,’ he added. “Just having my hometown back me, Under Armour back me and Floyd back me and I’m on the undercard, it feels amazing.” Davis then went on to reveal that he currently doesn’t have an opponent booked for the event. “There are a few names that they’ve mentioned. And I believe that both of them will get knocked out.” The Baltimore native was then quizzed about the prospect of fighting McGregor. And he wasn’t shy about expressing his belief that he’d wipe the floor with Ireland’s first UFC belt holder.
