Referee: Bill Clancy; Judges: Julie Lederman (N.Y.), Barry Lindenman (N.C.), Nelson Vasquez (Puerto Rico) Super Middleweight Bout – 10 Rounds Jose Uzcategui – 167 ¾ lbs. Lionell Thompson – 168 lbs. Referee: George Chip; Judges: Max DeLuca (Calif.), Harold Hunt (Ga.), Nola Oliver (Ga.) FLASH QUOTES: FLOYD MAYWEATHER “This is great. It’s not just about boxing being in one place. It’s about thinking outside the box so I said, ‘Why not?’ Atlanta is a great place with so many beautiful people. It’s just a great city. “It’s all about taking chances and rolling the dice. It’s the same thing I did in my career: Took chances and rolled the dice. There is a lot of great talent that comes out of Atlanta, a lot of great boxing talent. “When [Davis] was a kid I remember when I was on tour with Canelo a young kid came up to me and asked for an autograph and to sign his phone and take a picture. Then I saw something special in him when he came to my gym a couple of times. He was undefeated as a pro after a few fights and I said in two years I can make you a world champion. And we did it.” JEAN PASCAL “We are two warriors and we are two gentlemen so people are very excited for this fight and we are going to put on a show tomorrow night. “[Jack] went up to my weight class. This is my weight class and I’m the champion so welcome to my weight class, Badou. It’s simple why I’m still here: Hard work and discipline.” BADOU JACK “I’m just excited to become a three-time world champion. He’s my friend after the fight, but for now we are enemies.” JOSE UZCATEGUI “I’m coming back out and showing everyone I’m a knockout artist like I’ve been and I’m getting the knockout. [Caleb] Plant is my only mission and to get the rematch.” LIONELL THOMPSON “It was super hard [to make weight]. Anything in life worth having is super hard. I knew it would be work, but we did it. As far as him saying he’s a knockout artist, I don’t know if you’ve heard the saying, ‘The devil is a liar.’” SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING COUNTDOWN Live Streaming Online – 6:45 p.m. ET/3:45 p.m. PT IBF Super Bantamweight Title Eliminator Angelo Leo – 121 ½ lbs. • Terence Crawford: Ready to Announce Himself at Upcoming Debutant Brawl
TERENCE CRAWFORD: READY TO ANNOUNCE HIMSELF AT UPCOMING DEBUTANT BRAWL By: Bill Dwyre* Terence Crawford is in line to become boxing’s next celebrated debutant. All the things are in order for his coming-out party July 23rd in Las Vegas. It could be a ball. He won’t be wearing a long gown. No corsage on his wrist. Just shorts and shoes and the tools of his trade, the boxing gloves with which he hopes to leave impressions on the face of Viktor Postol, and in the minds of a crowd of around 9,000 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. If boxing could produce a list of who is next, Crawford would certainly be high on it. The likes of Gennady Golovkin (Triple G), Canelo Alvarez and Andre Ward have all had their big moments and made their big impressions. No debutants there. They have been to big dances and now are maneuvering for the top of the heap in the sport. Nothing new about them. They have arrived and become gold-plated. Floyd Mayweather Jr., says he’s retired, and, surprisingly, he has remained that way. For now. Manny Pacquiao said he was retired after the April victory over Tim Bradley. Few bought that, even with his impending Senator duties in the Philippines. The skeptics were right, as they usually are in boxing. Pacquiao announced this week that he will fight again, in either late October or mid- November. Suddenly, Terence Crawford’s debutante ball in Las Vegas is high on the list of sports’ big dances.

GOLDEN BOY PROMOTIONS IN ASSOCIATION WITH ZR ENTERTAINMENT SIGNS MULTI- FIGHT DEAL WITH OLYMPIC GOLD MEDALIST AND FORMER THREE- DIVISION WORLD CHAMPION YURIORKIS GAMBOA LOS ANGELES (Jan. 23, 2017) – Building on its record of signing and promoting the best of the best, Golden Boy Promotions – in association with ZR Entertainment — today announced a multi-fight deal with former three-division world champion and Olympic Gold medalist Yuriokis “El Ciclón de Guantánamo” Gamboa (25-1, 17 KOs). The Cuban standout, who has defeated a who’s who of champions and contenders throughout his 10-year professional career, will look to add to the title belts he has held in the featherweight, super featherweight and lightweight divisions as he makes another run at championship glory. “I am looking forward to winning yet another world title, and I know Golden Boy Promotions is the perfect place to help guide me,” Gamboa said. “Though I have recently had some long stretches of inactivity, that stops today, and I will take on anyone, anytime, to achieve my goal of recapturing a championship belt.” Gamboa will come out of the gate facing a tall order on March 11 when he squares off with Rene “Gemelo” Alvarado (24-7, 16 KOs) who was last seen defeating contender Jason “Star” Velez. The fight will serve as chief support for the highly anticipated HBO Boxing After Dark card featuring middleweight knockout artist David Lemieux taking on the heavy-handed Curtis “Cerebral Assassin ” Stevens at Turning Stone Resort Casino. Gamboa has been a force in multiple divisions for many years, defeating big names along the way including former world champions Orlando “Siri” Salido, Daniel Ponce De León and the contender Jorge “Coloradito” Solís.

  • Gervonta Davis Vs. Hugo Ruiz International Media Conference Call Transcript
Gervonta Davis vs. Hugo Ruiz International Media Conference Call Transcript Kelly Swanson Thank you everybody for joining this call. I’d like to kick the call off and commend Premier Boxing Champions, Mayweather Promotions, TGB Promotions and SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING and the network for saving this really special card that’s going to take place Saturday, February 9. Everybody’s aware of the unfortunate injury to Abner Mares, who was going to fight Gervonta Davis, but fortunately a great replacement was found in Hugo Ruiz. Now I’m going to turn it over to Stephen Espinoza to make opening comments. Stephen Espinoza Thanks very much. By now all of you are aware of the substitution. I don’t think it’s any exaggeration to say that Abner was heartbroken at this development about the injury. The Davis fight was a fight that Abner asked for, that he pursued and is a fight that’s in his backyard. It was well on its way to breaking the attendance record and it remains to be seen whether that will happen or not but certainly had the cards stayed together it almost certainly would have broken the attendance record based on the trajectory of ticket sales. At this point the priority was in fact saving this card. We’ve got a whole host of various fighters who’ve been training very hard for this. They all want to remain active. Davis wants to remain active so it was a priority to save this card and to find the best possible, available opponent. There were a number of options pursued, a number of calls went out to a variety of different fighters.
