About the Keynote Speakers Cara Buckingham, Information Director at Birch Equipment Buckingham manages the copious data, discovery and processes Birch teams use to buy, train, rent, sell and maintain Birch’s 145,000 piece (and growing) construction fleet.

For the last eight years, Buckingham has advocated for Birch by building relationships with supplier diversity and procurement officers in the private and public sectors. Additionally, she tracks small business program policies to maximize company resources in pursuit of contracts. She recently joined the AGC Diversity Task Force. Buckingham loves working for a company loaded with talented people committed to pushing the envelope and continuously improving. When she’s not representing Birch, you can find her running the trails in Bellingham with her training buddies, promoting her author husband’s work and shuttling their boys to a smorgasbord of activities. As a frequent attendee at small business events, Buckingham is honored by the opportunity to share Birch Equipment’s successes and challenges as well as best practices for small businesses looking to win their next contract.

Stephen Mitchell, Industrial Facility Manager for Birch Equipment Mitchell’s team provides primary on-site contact at heavy industrial facilities for equipment rental, procurement, mobilization, safety, lean management efficiencies and special projects.

Mitchell started his career with Birch 15 years ago as an entry level Store Rep. Like many of his fellow managers, he has advanced through Birch working in mobilization, maintenance and logistics and is an integral part of special project teams including Birch’s Streamlined Management customer web-based app, safety and continual improvement training programs.

Dedicated to safety and training through and through, for the past 14 years he has worked as a volunteer Firefighter/EMT with South Whatcom Fire Authority. Mitchell also coaches a Whatcom Amateur Hockey Association team and advocates for the Pacific NW Chapter of the Arthritis Foundation.
