Places of Interest 1 St Mary’s Church - This magnificent and beautiful sandstone Nantwich church often called ‘The Cathedral of South Cheshire’ was built around the 14th century. Town Centre 2 Nantwich War Memorial - Commemorating the fallen of WW1 and WW2. Plan 3 The Crown Hotel - Rebuilt in 1583 after the great fire. This Grade II listed building has an exquisite gallery window on the third floor, stunning Georgian ballroom and original wattle and daub construction. 4 46 High Street - Now a book shop this beautiful Tudor house was built in 1584. 5 13 Queen’s Aid House - Built by Thomas Cleese after the great fire in 1584. An inscription can be viewed thanking Queen Elizabeth for her generous donation towards the towns reconstruction. 12 6 The Pillory - In the middle ages wrongdoers were imprisoned here for the whole town to see. Sometimes afterwards they were transported and ducked into the town’s cess pit. 7 Nantwich Player’s Theatre - Originally the Quakers meeting 15 Canal Basin house built in the 16th century.
