Calculator Recommendation – All Grades

Students will be provided with the necessary calculators while they work in class. Our district supplies students with Texas Instruments calculators for classroom use. 6th and 7th grade use scientific calculators and 8th grade uses the TI-84 Plus Graphing Calculators. There are many websites that perform the same functions. Just type in “scientific calculator” for any mathematical computations, or if there is graphing involved, type in “graphing calculator”.

While using an online calculator or a smartphone would get the job done, it is not always the most user friendly. Another option would be to purchase a scientific calculator. With the current state our country is in with the COVID pandemic, it might be beneficial for your child to have their own calculator for both remote learning as well as during in-person learning to help reduce shared items and cleaning between use. They are relatively inexpensive and will perform all necessary functions for any grade (including all 8th grade math classes.) You can purchase these from any business that sells office supplies (Office Max, Staples, Meijer, Walmart, Target, Amazon, etc.) Below are a few options, but any scientific calculator will work.

*While we use and explore the graphing calculators in 8th grade, they are not necessary to complete work at home. This will change at the high school level, but at that point, students can check out a calculator to use at home.
