The Hot Sardines Fuelled by the belief that classic jazz feeds the heart and soul, The Hot Sardines are on a mission to make old sounds new again and prove that joyful music can bring people together in a disconnected world. In the last two years, the group has been featured at the Newport Jazz Festival and the Montreal Jazz Festival, has sold out City venues from Joe’s Pub to Ballroom and more than 150 tour dates from Chicago to London, and has released two albums on Universal Music Classics to critical raves and a No. 1 slot on the iTunes jazz chart in the US and internationally. In , The Hot Sardines draw a young audience and in the rest of the country, multi-generations come to enjoy the music. In the hot jazz movement, the collective stands apart for the innovation, verve, and sheer joy they bring to music, both new and old. The Hot Sardines’ self-titled debut album, named by iTunes as one of the best jazz albums of 2014, spent more than a year on the Billboard jazz chart, debuting in the top 10 alongside and . On French Fries & Champagne, the new album for Universal Music Classics, the jazz collective broadens its already impressive palette, combining covers and originals as they effortlessly channel New York speakeasies, Parisian cabarets and New Orleans jazz halls.

Flávia Nascimento Flávia Nascimento started her career in Belo Horizonte, Brazil as an actress, circus artist, and clown before moving to Quebec City. Part of the Quebecois artistic landscape as “that charming Brazilian performer,” Flavia fully devoted herself to her singing in 2014, producing her first big solo show in Sherbrooke along with her four accompanying musicians that she affectionately dubs “her smallest big band.” She was the Stingray Music Rising Star Award winner at Montreal’s Mundial Music Showcase and, in late spring 2016, she released her first full length CD, Beija Flor. Her influences range from the traditional forro style of Luiz Gonzaga and Jackson do Pandeiro to Gilberto Gil, Milton Nascimento, and Elza Soares, all done with a tad of circus flair.

The Hot Sardines made their Royal Conservatory debut on December 12, 2014 and tonight marks Flávia Nascimento’s Conservatory debut.
