Jan Total Fire Ban! 20 Fireworks Ban! p 2 Bluestone Festival Dec 19 Jan 20 About the Club Sleepy Hollow Blues Club was formed in 1994 by a dedicated group of blues lovers and meets every fourth Sunday in the month except De- cember and January for top-class blues. There are frequent social events, featuring a wide variety of local and visiting musicians. Over the years, the club has welcomed interna- tional artists such as Guy Davis, Bob Brozman and Wolf Mail. Top Aussie acts have included Chain, Jeff Lang, Ash Grunwald, Geoff Achison, Andrew Winton, Fiona Boyes, The Detonators, Third Degree, Dutch Tilders, Spectrum and Chris Wilson – not to mention the cream of local talent including Muddy Puddles, Stringybark McDowell, Grizzly Bros, Lounge Lizards, Wayne Jury, Chubby Rae & The Elevators, Sweet Felicia and the Honeytones and many, many more. The Bluestone Festival, held every New Year’s Eve, is the highlight of the club’s activi- ties, with attendances of up to 700, as blues lovers and their families from Geelong and all over the country flock to enjoy two days of great music, friendship and dancing. Most people camp overnight, and the well-stocked bar, hot and cold food stalls and merchan- dise ensure that everyone is catered for. The club is associated with other blues clubs around Australia, including the Melbourne Blues Appreciation Society and the South Australian Blues Society, and members are welcome at other clubs’ functions. Membership entitles you to all kinds of benefits, such as discounts from sponsors, free or discount entry to club functions, and a monthly newsletter. The financial benefits are clear – if you attend only four blues sessions throughout the year and purchase a club T- shirt, you’ve already made your money back – from then on, everything you come along to is money in your pocket! Membership applies annually from August 1 each year, and if you join in June or July of any year, we’ll give you the additional months free. The name of our festival came from the bluestone walls of the Inverleigh Hotel where our first festival was held in 1996, an amazing event that is still talked about today. The Bluestone Festival has evolved since then and continues to present top blues mu- sic, a fun atmosphere and provide good memories to the many thousands who will at- tend and have attended over the years. Bluestone has two aims—to showcase local blues talent and to bring great blues play- ers to an appreciative audience in the Geelong region. This year once again we have some top local talent — Brian Fraser and Dave “Bastard” Keellings, and Dog Gone South (Dave Dorman). From further afield around Victoria we have The Jump Cats, Amnesia Blues Band, the Detonators, Geoff Achison and the Souldiggers, and Jimi Hocking’s Blues Machine. From up north we have Nathan Beretta as well as the Shane Pacey Trio. Check them, and the others, on pages 6 - 8. We aim to enjoy the blues and ensure it continues on in Geelong. A huge thank you to all those who have helped get the 2019 Bluestone Festival up and going once again. All the best for 2020 to our members, sponsors, friends and family, now for the music! Paul Madden SHBC President A Few Friendly Reminders You must keep your wristband on at all times. If you do not have your wristband on, you will not be able to be served food or drinks and will not be admitted into the festival area. There is a wider selection of food available this year with additional food vans in attend- ance. There are also hot and cold drinks including beer, spirits, soft drinks and iced wa- ter for sale. There is a total ban on open fires and BBQs because of the extreme fire danger, as the district is very dry. This also includes fireworks, as these can be very disturbing to local livestock. Also, remember to butt out cigarettes properly. Parents, please keep an eye on your children. We don’t want them getting into trouble or spoiling the occasion for others. Strictly no fires, no glass, no BYO and no dogs. Please try to keep the area clean and dispose of all your rubbish and cans in the correct, marked bins supplied for this purpose and remove any campsite rubbish when leaving.. If you need first aid due to accident or medical condition, the first aid area is near the food and drinks area (see back page map). If you need any other help or want information about the club, Sleepy Hollow Blues Club Committee members will try to help you. Look for the people with the blue Committee tags. The last reminder is to have fun and enjoy the Festival. Don’t drive home if you have had too much to drink, sleep the night. There is plenty of camping area. Today’s event was hosted by writer/actor/producer/director Adam Zwar, whose AACTA and AFI awarded productions include Agony Aunts, Lowdown and Wilfred. Zwar, whose humour was in full force, was joined by outstanding presenters including AACTA President Geoffrey Rush, David Stratton, Damian Walshe-Howling, Alexandra Schepisi, Charlotte Best and Diana Glenn, to name a few. The talent pool was fierce this year with a number of productions bagging multiple nominations Including THE BROKEN SHORE, TENDER, UKRAINE IS NOT A BROTHEL and PREDESTINATION, all with five nominations. Over the year, students learn to make a bolt-on electric guitar, a dreadnaught style acoustic guitar and design a custom instrument of their choice. The course covers hand carving and the use and maintenance of hand and power tools necessary for construction, and gives vital hands-on experience. As part of the course, students learn to complete perspective drawings, isometric and concept drawings and use these skills to develop a product range. They also learn to generate computer aided drawings for their instruments and inlays, and create custom templates and jigs. The course also covers an introduction to computer controlled cutting and milling machines and laser cutters. Students are introduced to string instrument setup from guitar to ukulele to traveller mandolin. Students also learn how to improve instrument function, the physics of sound, as well as the development of a business plan. Industry visits are a part of the course and all students must complete a work placement at our industry partners as part of the program. This is organised by NCAT. Assessment Successful completion of the course requires 95% attendance. Students will be required to complete two instruments and all set work as well as the work placement. The assessment of overall competence at this certificate level will be undertaken by a qualified assessor and your competence judged using all of these criteria. So, too, GPN analysis emphasizes spatial relations between network actors over temporal change. We extend GPN theorization through a temporal analysis of industrial change, connecting manufacturing to upstream resource materialities and shifting regulation, and to downstream consumers increasingly concerned with provenance and material stewardship. To illustrate, we document a resource-sensitive GPN-acoustic guitar manufacturing-where scarcity of select raw materials (tonewoods) with material qualities of resonance, strength, and beauty, as well as tighter regulation, has spawned shifting economic geographies of new actors who influence the whole GPN.
