I'm so thrilled to bring to bear both my love of this historic property and also my deep-seated belief that young women need smart playful films that speak to them without condescension,” said Dunham. “I’m so excited to partner with this inspiring powerhouse of a team. Developing this project with Robbie, Lena, Mattel and MGM to reintroduce Polly in a fun, modern way has been such a treat. As a child who was obsessed with Polly Pocket, this is a real dream come true and I can’t wait to bring these tiny toys to the big screen,” said Collins. Robbie Brenner and Kevin McKeon will lead the project for Mattel Films. Sandino Moya-Smith and Winnie Carrillo will lead for MGM. Good Thing Going’s Liz Watson and Michael P. Cohen will serve as executive producers. “Polly Pocket is an iconic franchise that has resonated with children for more than three decades.” said Brenner, executive producer of Mattel Films. “The incredible nostalgia that Polly evokes, coupled with Lena’s fresh approach and Lily’s take on the character, will introduce an entirely new interpretation of this classic brand to audiences. We look forward to working with MGM to produce a feature film that will appeal to the whole family.” Michael De Luca, MGM's Film Group Chairman and Pamela Abdy, MGM's Film Group President said, “We look forward to working with our partners at Mattel Films to help bring Lena and Lily’s vision for a Polly Pocket movie to audiences the world over.” Polly Pocket, which was first introduced more than 30 years ago, is the original micro-scale doll and accessories line of toys and, today, is the #1 global playset dolls growth property*. In 2018, Mattel reintroduced the popular 90s sensation with a product line that pays homage to the brand’s origins, with updates to the tiny and mighty doll for a new generation, adding features such as hidden worlds and fun surprise formats. Children today can also experience Polly Pocket and her world through an animated television series, as well as content on YouTube, that inspires kids to be adventurous, bold and to never let being little get in their way. Polly Pocket joins other Mattel Films projects in development including movies based on American Girl®, Barbie®, Barney®, Hot Wheels®, Magic 8 Ball®, Major Matt Mason®, Masters of the Universe®, Rock ‘Em Sock ‘Em Robots®, Thomas & Friends®, UNO®, View Master® and Wishbone™. • 60 Years of Collecting Barbie®! by Christopher Varaste
60 Years of Collecting Barbie®! by Christopher Varaste Muse. Pioneer. Icon. That’s Barbie® doll, a fashion model whose stride down an endless runway inspired an entire line of quality collectibles for an astounding 60 years! An elevation of design and fashion, Barbie doll appeals to anyone interested in contemporary fashion trends. With her online presence, Barbie also serves as a major influencer. Barbie always encapsulates that intangible quality known as “style.” Under Mattel owner Ruth Handler’s influence and designer Charlotte Johnson’s tutelage, the world was first taken by surprise when Barbie was introduced at the New York Toy Fair on March 9th, 1959, along with her pink fashion booklet. Sales took off after Barbie appeared in a commercial aired during The Mickey Mouse Club™. All it took was one look and everyone wanted a Barbie doll! From the beginning, astute collectors recognized the ingenuity and detail that had gone into the doll and her wardrobe, which began to grow along with Barbie doll’s popularity. Today, those early tailored fashions are a veritable freeze frame of the era, reminiscent of Balenciaga, Schiaparelli, Givenchy and Dior. Many clever girls handled their precious Barbie dolls with care, and that eventually marked the beginning of the very first Barbie™ Fan Club in 1961, which set the stage for more clubs where Barbie™ fans could gather and make new friends. There was so much to collect! Nothing stopped Barbie from constantly evolving with hairstyles like Ponytails, Bubble Cuts, Mod hairstyles and an eclectic wardrobe that showcased the latest looks from smart suits, career outfits and go-go boots! • How Are the Major Streaming Services Reshaping the Film Industry
How Are the Major Streaming Services Reshaping the Film Industry Master Thesis MSc Strategy, Organization and Leadership Submission: May 9th, 2018 Normal pages: 106 (237.228 characters incl. spaces) Supervisor: Mehran Moghaddas (DVIP, INT) Students: Viktoria Vas & Gerda Binkyte Copenhagen Business School 2018 Abstract The paper examines the effects major streaming services, such as Netflix, Amazon, HBO have on the Danish film industry, and seeks to identify how individual producers and independent production companies in the country can exploit the rising opportunities. The research used a mix of deductive and inductive reasoning in the analysis, for which twelve semi-structured in-depth interviews were conducted with industry professionals from Denmark over the course of five weeks. This led to insightful findings that can be used for further researches for both academics and professionals. The analysis built on theories discussed in the literature review; Porter’s five forces (Porter, 1979), supply chain, emerging strategy (Mintzberg, 1987), marketing mix, four trajectories of change (McGahan, 2004). The findings include changes in certain links in the supply chain of film production, such as; affects on producers and film financing, changes in sales and distribution. While for producers SVOD services mainly bring additional financing opportunities, decreasing the power of DFI and the national broadcasters, sales agents and distribution is highly affected. Sales agents will need to adapt to the changing conditions, and transform themselves from traditional sales agents to agents who offer extra services for their clients. Distribution is affected in a way that its release windows system is disrupted and shortening some of these windows might not be avoided in the future.
