VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR DR. JOE

Dr. Joe Heck is on military duty for the next two weeks and we’re doing a special phone bank next Wednesday at 7395 S. Pecos, Suite #104, to show support for Joe.

As a veteran Chris Edwards, Assemblyman, District 19, will be there with us to support Joe. We have been asked to have a particularly good turnout for this event. Yes, it does involve phoning but to those of you who absolutely hate it, one time for two hours won’t hurt you, from 11 to 1.

They want to show the office packed. Then we can go to lunch together which we just did for the first time yesterday and enjoyed it so much we’re going to do this weekly. What a great way to get to know each other . . . working for our next Senator and then having an informal lunch. Hope you can join us and help elect Joe Heck to the Senate.

BEING THERE IS BELIEVING By Pauline Ng Lee, Director of Nevada Republican Men’s Club

Seeing and hearing is believing. In the case of Dwight Mazzone, Chair of the Clark County Republic Party who attended the 2016 Republican National Convention in Cleveland, Ohio, hearing Ivanka Trump speak about the Trump family values of hard work and personal responsibility made Mazzone believe that the Republican Presidential Candidate, Donald J. Trump, was the right leader for the United States.

Citing the revelation by Ivanka Trump that “Trump’s companies have more women in leadership and management roles than any other Fortune 500 company.” Mazzone came away from the Convention impressed by Donald J. Trump’s accomplishments, his wisdom for developing and seeking out talent, his inclusive attitude and notably, his humility.

Mazzone, who attended the Convention with the Nevada contingency of 85 representatives, pointed out that the Trump children and Melania Trump exuded quiet confidence in all of their speeches, while Mr. Trump himself exhibited great poise and confidence throughout the entire Convention, despite controversy created by Ted Cruz’s speech. Not once did Donald Trump undertake or stir the crowd into chanting anything negative during the Convention. The only chant that Donald Trump undertook was “USA, USA, USA” which underscores his commitment to a united America, according to Mazzone.

Mazzone pointed out that several speeches were not broadcast during primetime that he wished all Americans could have heard. He cited the speech given by Lisa Shin, an optometrist from New Mexico and president of Korean Americans for Trump, who described her family’s pursuit of the American dream though hard work and education and her family’s lawful immigration to the United States.

Mazzone also described Arizona State Senator Kimberly Yee’s speech as being inspiring and which reflected Donald Trump’s high regard for women and past history of inclusion.

During the Convention, the Nevada contingency gathered together to discuss state issues as Nevada was a designated “battleground state” with several con- gressional positions up for election. Mazzone came away from the Convention with a “renewed sense of success” and a “passion for dispelling myths drummed up by the liberal media” about Donald J. Trump. As Mazzone pointed out, the real “Donald J. Trump” is all about a united and safe America.

The Forces of Power By: Rana Goodman,

Isolate, Medicate, Steal the Estate. That has been the mantra chanted by families of the guardianship victims from Clark County, Nevada and many other states all over the US for years.

With the blessing of The Vegas Voice, and protection of “freedom of the press”, I picked up the gauntlet a year and a half ago and, although we have seen a few positive changes, it still seems like one step forward, two steps back.

Our group of advocates and victim family members have, over the past year, tried over and over again to file police reports about abusive guardians or questionable behavior. I have personally filed reports with the Ombudsman regarding living conditions in group homes that didn’t seem up to standard for seniors not able to fend for themselves. The police reports fell on “deaf ears.” The Ombudsman never seemed to see what I saw.

I believed things would improve a few months ago when a letter was read at the Nevada Guardianship Commission meeting (of which I am a member) announcing that police departments all over the State were now cooperating with the Commission, and would assist with the guardianship complaints. Really? I had no idea that meant one sided.

Let’s look at some recent events and see if I’m being paranoid.

In June, a lady, 86 years of age, was removed from a top notch memory care center that her husband had chosen for her while he was hospitalized. His wife had Alzheimer’s and he wanted to make sure she had the best care. This facility is rated the best in the state of Nevada and has scored an “A” on every inspection. Suddenly her husband died.

Very soon afterward, the lady was removed by the Clark County Public Guardian’s office and taken to an undisclosed facility. This government office claimed it should be guardian of her estate. Our advocates and The Vegas Voice made a lot of noise about her removal and demanded to know where she had been taken. Then a flurry of activity and events began to happen. We received assistance from Barbara Buckley’s Legal Aid office who appointed an attorney to represent this lady to try and get her returned to the care facility her husband wanted her in.

Days later, the care facility was bombarded with an inspection team led by a police officer who must watch Chicago PD a lot; since we hear that was her style. Once she was done, the seniors who wanted more than anything to stand tall for our lady, are now terrified to do so, including the man that is listed in her documents as executor of the estate valued at close to one million dollars..

The public guardian’s office insisted that they had moved her so she would get “better care”, however, as of July 26 she was placed in Summerlin Hospital with infected bed sores, infected mouth sores and had not been able to eat for several days. A strange type of “better care” since she was now in a home with only one other ward to be taken care of.

In 1986, when Elie Wiesel was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize, in his acceptance speech he said: "Whenever and wherever human beings endure suffering and humiliation, take sides. Neutrality helps the oppressor, never the victim. Silence encourages the tormentor, never the tormented."

Those words are just as relevant today as they were when Mr. Wiesel spoke them. They apply just as much to our guardianship victims and vulnerable seniors as they did to the holocaust victims he spoke about then. And remember the famous poem by Martin Niemoller, the German Protestant Pa

AND THEN THEY CAME FOR ME They came for the Communists, and I didn’t object – For I wasn’t a Communist; They came for the Socialists, and I didn’t object – For I wasn’t a Socialist. They came for the labor leaders, and I didn’t object – For I wasn’t a labor leader; They came for the Jews, and I didn’t object – For I wasn’t a Jew. Then they came for me –And there was no one left to object.

The NFRW has launched the "2016 Destination: White House" tour, a nationwide campaign to register Republican-leaning women to vote, rally Federation clubs and communities across the country, and put a Republican back in the White House. Touring the country, Rosie is scheduled to be at the NRCC meeting August 27 in Lake Tahoe and in Las Vegas on August 30th. Let’s plan on going to see Rosie and meet our candidates as Rosie stops in Las Vegas or Lake Tahoe.

NvFRW President, Lori Piotrowski, signs Rosie in Cleveland .

If any of you receive a call from someone professing to by from Microsoft reporting a problem with your computer, hang up the phone. Do not pass GO, do not argue the point, this my friends is a SCAM! Microsoft tells me that they NEVER call out making these call, but they will be happy to assist you should you call in. These telemarketing people that are calling all over the country are attempting to get access to home computers, taking control of them remotely. Once they have access they can get all of the personal information you have stored and can also put key tracing into your system a well as viruses. Please be smart… HANG UP THAT PHONE and don’t give them a chance to harm the computer or to steal your identification.

DID YOU KNOW By: Sydney S. Ingram

The following are excerpts from an article written for Liberty Council that I think are well worth contemplating as we move forward in the 2016 presidential election.

“We are living in a pivotal time in America due to a major shift in the political climate of our nation. We need to renew our efforts to restore the founding principles that made America a shining city on a hill by heeding the call to ACTIVE CITIZENSHIP.

….PARTICIPATE: If we do nothing to shape the political discourse, the secularists and those who prefer European socialism over American freedom will set the agenda. Participation is crucial!!

…PRAY: America was founded upon prayer. But for our Founders, praying together during the Constitutional Convention, there would be no America.

…SERVE: The Founders believed it was their civic duty to serve in public office. Not all of us are called to public service but we can find numerous ways to work for the common good.

…INSPIRE: Our Founders sought to advance life, liberty, and family. This vision caused them to write it into the Declaration of Independence. These values are now under attack and we must be committed to restoring these fundamental values.

…STAND: When you take a stand, some people will resist you. If the Founders would have run from controversy and opposition, there would be no America.

…RISK: Where there is no opportunity to fail there is no opportunity to succeed. True success requires risk! Never give up—defeat should not be part of your vocabulary.

Our nation is at a crossroads. Now is not the time to step back and stand down! We need to stop the anti-American policies we have witnessed these past several years and restore the Constitution and the principals that made AMERICA great.”
