ANNIE LOUEY – BEFORE I FORGET The average person loses nine objects a day. This is a show about losing things but finding what it means to be human.

After smashing her Fringe debut of Butt Donut last year, with sold out shows and an encore performance, Annie Louey returns with a brand new hour at North Melbourne’s Fringe Hub. She will now use her storytelling, stand-up and quick-fire improvisation skills to explore forgetfulness, lost objects and the pitfalls of the human mind. Imagine Dr Karl hosting Family Feud – except Annie isn’t qualified. Annie has been featured in The Age, The Herald Sun and heard on triple j’s Good Az Friday during the Melbourne International Comedy Festival. Annie has tried setting alarms, Mari Kondo-ing her house, and “brain-kegels” (as mentioned in Broad City) but it hasn’t stopped her constantly forgetting her keys. Annie will answer all of the important questions, like is technology making us more forgetful? Are our hectic lifestyles destroying our memories? And where are my keys?

BIO One of Melbourne’s brightest rising stars, Annie commands the room as a young, female, Chinese-Australian comedian. At 25 years old, she has already performed at some of the best comedy venues nationally and internationally, and is currently being mentored by comedic powerhouse Tessa Waters (Fringe Wives Club). Praise for Butt Donut:

“Annie stands out in the stand up crowd.” – Keith Gow “Relatable and charming.” – FringeFeed.com.au “Razor-sharp wit and an entirely well-written script.”  – X-Press Magazine

Fringe At Gasworks Media Release Anya Anastasia- The Executioners 18-29 September Embargo 15 August

The Executioners is the cutting-edge, and tongue in cheek, provocative cabaret from the internationally celebrated Anya Anastasia. The Executioners cuts cleverly close to the bone as Anya indulges and dismembers the nations political and social current affairs.

Award-winning musical-comedy maverick Anya Anastasia brandishes her razor-sharp satirical wit, gleefully attacking and dismembering perils of the modern world with an armoury of original songs. A futurist vision in white spandex and stacked heels, multi-instrumentalist Anya is a Gaga-esque judge, jury and executioner - tearing into the fabric of modern Western culture with her vocal prowess and trademark lyrical levity. Fresh, energetic and multi- dimensional – this is contemporary cabaret as it should be.

Interwoven soundscapes, lighting effects, and onscreen visual design by Underground Media underpin themes of technological overindulgence and the algorithmic sensory tsunami in our everyday lives - especially that of our iPhone toting, Samurai slashing, socially-conscious heroine.

Alongside musical-partner-in-crime, Gareth Chin, Anastasia stalks the 21st century landscape launching thrilling attacks on ecological screw-ups, techno obsessives, and self-congratulatory slacktivist keyboard warriors. ‘The Executioners’ is digitally enhanced millennial neo-cabaret, cutting right to the (funny) bone. And yes, there is a fight scene.

“Wearing your politics on your sleeve is scarier than taking your clothes off in front of people, and it's more controversial", says Anya Anastasia. “This show is a thrilling new vehicle for me- I’m using my craft to provoke the conversations I want the world to be having.”

“…fabulous; she’s like a flirty Tim Minchin in a gown” BROADWAY BABY ★★★★ “…alluring and clinically insane. Her interactions with the audience are witty and sensual” EDINBURGH FESTIVAL MAGAZINE ★★★★ “…Inventive..cleverly composed, very well written, and delivered brilliantly - even when Anya is literally standing on her head!” THE VOICE ★★★★★ “…Anya Anastasia’s voice is worth the cost of the ticket price alone. Fun, flirty, sweet and seductive” THE OUTLIER SCOTLAND ★★★★

Media Release Melbourne Fringe Festival 06/07/2018 ______One Fell Swoop Circus presents KILTER Using nine metre arcs of rolled steel Kilter is circus on the knife-edge of equilibrium. Inspired by the mechanics of the circus itself the new work from acclaimed One Fell Swoop Circus features never before seen apparatus, award- winning acrobatics and live music performed by Melbourne’s violinist beatsmith, ORCHA.

ORCHA’s universe of unique sounds, made entirely by the violin, and the poetry in motion of One Fell Swoop Circus takes a fresh look at the intersection of science and art.

Using live projection Kilter illustrates the mathematics and physics that underlies the acrobatics and asks, ‘how do we maintain balance in a turbulent world?’

One Fell Swoop Circus are debuting Kilter as part of the Melbourne Fringe Festival at St Kilda’s home for innovative contemporary performance, Theatre Works.

“The central idea of the work comes from how you stand on a rope - you don’t balance yourself over it – you pull the rope underneath you. You don’t find your balance, you fight for it, continuously.

“We love this physical manifestation of unstable equilibrium and think it speaks beautifully of what it’s like to move through life – one step at a time.” explains Director and company co-founder, Jonathan Morgan.

Through song and storytelling, Ms CeCe fondly remembers her time spent in the company of the magnanimous Mrs Jones. Spanning Ms CeCe’s six-year Sydneyside sojourn, “Somebody’s Somebody” recounts the story of a young woman as she starts her life afresh on that infamously Glittering Mile. image by Theresa Harrison Presented in the intimacy of Errol’s & Co, this ladies’ closet cabaret sees Ms CeCe move from the shadows to the sun. One-Woman 24-Hour Endurance Dance Extravaganza

Freya dances for 24 hours straight. She does not eat, sleep, or rest, unless you take her place.

The 24 Hour Dance Project is an electrifying endurance performance that invites participants to join Freya as she pushes her love for dance – and her body – to its absolute limit. Inspired by iconic 80s dance films and extreme performance art, The 24 Hour Dance Project is what you’d get if Marina Abramovic and Kevin Bacon had a love child.

The 24 Hour Dance Project is an immersive, participatory dance experience that encourages the audience to go beyond their comfort zone and come home to themselves. It’s campy, it’s queer, it’s irreverent, it’s a ritual extravaganza. Whether you dance for five minutes or five hours, The 24 Hour Dance Project is the ultimate Inhibition Liberator Machine – a space where you can get loose, get low, let your body do the talking and unleash your inner boogie beast. Photo credit: Evan Fowler The Project is the brainchild of emerging theatre maker Freya McGrath. In her work as a performer, director, and arts facilitator, Freya has crafted her practice around the power of movement. “I am committed to making art that is gripping and pertinent,” she says, “art that is considerate and brings people together.” Freya has been dancing (not professionally, but enthusiastically) since childhood. “I believe dancing is an act of defiance in the face of a frightening world. When I dance, I am confident, I am fearless, I am present and I am powerful,” she says. “I want to test how far my love of dance can take me.”

Audience members can buy a 24-hour pass to The Project that allows them to watch or participate, stay as long as they want and return as many times as they want. There will be DJ sets and performances from community groups and other Fringe artists punctuating the 24-hour period, which will be housed at Testing Grounds in Southbank. There will also be a two-hour ‘relaxed’ section with quieter music and calm lighting designed for audience members with sensory needs and children.

The 24 Hour Dance Project is presented as a part of Critical Mass.
