Luxurious Ski Chalet in Chamonix LES 3 MARMOTTES LES 3 MARMOTTES CHALET DES CRISTAUX Luxurious Ski chalet in Chamonix LES 3 MARMOTTES LES 3 MARMOTTES An absolutely superb luxury winter & summer mountain chalet situated within an easy walk of Les Houches ski area. The chalet has an indoor swimming pool (with a moving floor to adjust depth or convert it to a dance floor) and an outdoor jacuzzi placed in beautifully landscaped gardens offering magnificent views of the surrounding mountains. The gardens also feature a unique sauna in an independent “mazot” or small chalet. Inside the property features a large cinema and a playroom with arcade games. Chalet 3 Marmottes boasts no less than 350m2 of luxurious but cosy living space laid out over 3 floors where every corner displays exquisite taste and style. Special attention has been given to lighting all through the chalet creating a relaxing ambiance through the day. This truly sets new bounds of luxury living in the Chamonix Valley. The large living room with its high vaulted ceiling features a grand central fireplace with a traditional wood constructed hood, a 4-side see-through foyer and a Mont Blanc granite stone base. Its large bay windows let a lot of natural light in and give an even more impressive sense of space, allowing different atmospheres that change with the different times of the day. The dining area has a large table made of oak and stone, placed in the continuity of a kitchen island, allowing to configure the space in many ways. There again, all was well studied and the fully equipped kitchen is discrete, functional and beautiful at the same time, offering an amazing space for your private chef to prepare your favourite meals. All bedrooms are set in a modern decor of wood and local stone, inspired by the mountains, with custom-made furniture in the same spirit. Each bedroom has its own TV, private shower room and Japanese toilet. Towels, bathrobes and shower products are at your disposal for your comfort. Depending on the aspect, each of the rooms offers panoramic views over either the mont blanc massif or the fiz range.     Rose Jones Travel Award Report: The Tour of Mont Blanc Last summer I completed half of the Tour of Mont Blanc, whilst collecting data to demonstrate the effect of trekking on resting heart rate and breathing rate. Before departing, I also recorded body weight and kept a food log throughout the trip. At 4807m the summit of Mont Blanc stands over 3700m above the French town Chamonix, our starting point, and 3500m above the Italian town Courmayeur, our finishing point. The tour of Mont Blanc encompasses the Mont Blanc massif along a 170km trail which passes through France, Italy and Switzerland. This experience was one I will never forget and I cannot thank the CET enough for giving me such a wonderful opportunity. As we drove from Geneva airport to Chamonix, I was amazed by the view of the Mont Blanc Massif. The folding mountains were an astonishing view. On arrival, after a flight delay, we decided to change our plan and had to get a cable car to our starting point to ensure we got to our first hostel on time. We began a descent of over 1500m from the peak Le Brévent to Chamonix’s neighbouring town Les Houches. As we stepped off the cable car we were greeted by a view of the Lac du Brevent and a full-frontal view of Mont Blanc. The pathway zig zaged along the rocky landscape and, although the steep descent was difficult, the panoramic view made it worth it. On our way down we befriended a Canadian man who was completing the final leg of the Tour.

We have taken great care in preparing this information but schedules do change and you should also check with the local tourist information or your accommodation for updates or alternatives. Also at the time of writing this document, some 2016 Timetables were not available, so we have based the information on previous year’s timetables and given web links so you can find the up-to-date information at the time you depart. Feel free to call our UK office for assistance or if you need any help as we keep all the relevant timetables and can help you to change accommodation bookings if necessary. It is best to call during office hours from Monday to Friday between 9:00 – 17:30 UK time as this is when we are fully staffed and will almost always have French and Italian speakers in the office. Transport with Baggage Our baggage couriers (Taxi Besson) have two seats available in their van, which are available on a first come basis to ill or injured hikers who have booked baggage transfer.     Notes 1971 The Alps Colin Taytor Summary The summer season of 1971 must be one of the best on record. In the Western Alps the winter snowfall was late and less than usual, so the big classic faces came into condition early and remained in good condition for much of the season, in spite of several quite big storms in late July and August. A solo first ascent and half a dozen solo ascents of major routes were made by British climbers. British parties also made ascents of important routes such as the North-west faces of the Olan and the Ailefroide in the Dauphine, the Brouillard Pillars, the Grand Pilier d'Angle, the Central Pillar of Freney and the Droites North face in the Mont Blanc region, and of the Eiger and the Matterhorn North faces. Many other British parties made notable ascents and the notes below, while not complete, are confined mainly to their achievements. Details of ascents by continental climbers can be found in Alpine Climbing and in the continental journals, particularly La Montagne and Alpinismus. I am grateful particularly to Doug Scott, the Editor of Alpine Climbing and to Ken Wilson, the Editor of Mountain for collecting much of the information on which these notes are based, and also to many others who sent in information about their routes.
