A total of 737 clubs entered the FFA Cup 2019, a number that has significantly grown from the first edition of the FFA Cup in 2014, when 617 clubs entered. The FFA Cup 2019 started in February with the Preliminary Rounds to determine the 21 clubs from the semi-professional and amateur tiers. These clubs joined ten of the Hyundai A-League clubs (Western United FC will not participate in this edition) and the reigning National Premier Leagues Champions (Campbelltown City SC) in the Final Rounds. The FFA Cup Final 2019 will be played on Wednesday 23 October with the host city to be determined by a live draw. Each cup tie must be decided on the day, with extra time to decide results of matches drawn after 90 minutes, followed by penalties if required. At least one Member Federation club is guaranteed to progress to the Semi Finals. Previous winners of the FFA Cup are Adelaide United (2014 and 2018), Melbourne Victory (2015), Melbourne City FC (2016) and Sydney FC (2017). Broadcast partners – FOX SPORTS FOX SPORTS will again provide comprehensive coverage of the FFA Cup 2019 Final Rounds. The FFA Cup’s official broadcaster will show one LIVE match per match night from the Round of 32 onwards, while providing coverage and updates, as well as live streams, of non-broadcast matches.

    VFL Round 1 14 - 17 April 2017 $3.00 Photo: Cameron Grimes New VFL season begins Welcome to season 2017 in the Peter Jackson VFL. Plenty has happened since last September when Footscray was crowned premier. We have seen 13 VFL players provided with an AFL opportunity, selected in the 2016 NAB AFL national and rookie draft s. Casey and Geelong both produced three draft ees, with Coburg, Footscray and North Ballarat providing two draft ees each. The pleasing aspect has been seeing the likes of Tom Stewart, Mitch Hannan, Robbie Fox and Tim Smith debut in the early rounds of the AFL season. The competition this year will feature 14 clubs, with Frankston not provided a VFL licence for the 2017 season. The club has had a rich history of providing a pathway and opportunities for footballers in the region – none more evident than the debut for Sydney in recent weeks of 2014 Fothergill-Round Medal winner Nic Newman. However, it was decided at the end of last year that without the necessary off -field structures in place, AFL Victoria was not confident financial projections provided by the club could be met. We have a strong willingness to ensure there is a VFL presence in the region into the future, but it must be viable and sustainable both on and off the field in the long term. This has been highlighted in the regular communication AFL Victoria has had with the new board at the club. In other pre-season news, at the VFL Season Launch last week we revealed there will be a triple-header of matches for the 2017 Victorian state league Grand Final day at Etihad Stadium on Sunday September 24.

    STATE & TERRITORY TRIBUNAL GUIDELINES 2021 1. APPLICATION These State & Territory Tribunal Guidelines (Guidelines) apply to Australian Football State Leagues (and other leagues at the discretion of Controlling Bodies) conducted or administered by one of the following Controlling Bodies: (a) NSW/ACT: AFL (NSW/ACT) Commission Ltd ACN 086 839 385; (b) NT: AFL Northern Territory Limited ACN 097 620 525; (c) QLD: AFL Queensland Limited ACN 090 629 342; (d) SA: South Australian National Football League Inc ABN 59 518 757 737; (e) TAS: Football Tasmania Limited ACN 085 213 350; (f) Victoria: Australian Football League (Victoria) Limited ACN 147 664 579; (g) WA: West Australian Football Commission Inc ABN 51 167 923 136. A Controlling Body may, at its discretion, apply part or all of these Guidelines to additional leagues conducted or administered by, or affiliated with, that Controlling Body. Where these Guidelines are adopted by a Controlling Body, the players, coaches, officials, spectators, administrators and any other people reasonably connected to that Controlling Body (and the applicable State League or other league) will be required to comply with these Guidelines. 2 2. COMPETITION TRIBUNAL RULES 2.1 Appointment of Tribunal Members The Controlling Body may, from time to time, appoint persons to the Tribunal. 2.2 Tribunal Members The Tribunal shall consist of: (a) a Chairperson; and (b) a panel of persons who in the opinion of the Controlling Body possess a sufficient knowledge of Australian Football (Tribunal Panel). Persons appointed to the roles in section 2.2(a) and 2.2(b) may be rotated from hearing to hearing, as determined by the Controlling Body in its absolute discretion.

    Kevin Sheehan’s 2011 Top 30 It’s over a month since the NAB AFL Draft Combine was held at Etihad Stadium in Melbourne to scrutinise the talent pool. The event tested agility, speed and skills. Meanwhile the endurance testing was a highlight, with many record breaking performances. Now our focus is on the NAB AFL Draft which for the first time, be held in Sydney and will welcome 18 AFL clubs, including the newest club the Greater Western Sydney Giants. In the last month AFL Recruiting Managers and their teams have watched endless edited highlights of prospects; absorbed countless numbers relating to the speed, endurance, effective kicks, efficiently rates and clearances, studied medical reports and conducted interviews not just with the players, but with coaches, parents and teachers. It now comes down to opinions – human judgements on which players, in the view of the individual clubs, have what’s necessary to make a difference at the elite level. The computer in this instance won’t provide the answer but sports science helps with decisions. Who has the greater ball-winning ability, decision-making and skill execution? Who has the competitive edge and sufficient athleticism to be chosen for a professional AFL career? Who will grow and develop most in the AFL club environment? What we do know is that more than 90 players can be given the chance (there will be passes late in the draft to leave room for preseason draft selections in late December) and only father-son selections and upgraded rookies can be certain of their destination.

    Stingrays grounded by Jets. The Dandenong Southern Stingrays TAC Cup round 10 game was played at Shepley Oval, Dandenong which was another very disappointing defeat for the Stingrays against cross town rivals the Western Jets. The Stingrays were without Matthew Buntine, Todd Elton, Jordan Kelly, Piva Wright and Lachie Whitfield were all rested for the NAB AFL Vic Country games next week but the inclusions of Jason Pongracic, Nick Haynes and Alex Benbow should have been enough to cover the younger and inexperienced Jets. The game was horrible from the start with the Stingrays kicking with a 3 plus goal breeze. The Jets matched the Stingrays with inside 50’s and hit the scoreboard for 2 very important goals. Brett O’Hanlon started the day strongly and continued to do so for the remainder kicking 5 majors. Goals to Jake Calvert and Jason Pongracic from strong marks and a good crumbing goal to Dale Sutton saw the first term end with the Rays leading 21 to 14. There were some early signs that the Stingrays may finish the day stronger with their fitness, but the second term was a nightmare. The second saw a few costly errors and undisciplined 50’s which cost the Stingrays dearly on the day. The Jets started in blistering pace and kicked 6 goals 2 points from 13 inside 50’s, whilst the Rays only managed 1 goal 1 point from 8 inside 50’s. The half time margin of 24 points had the Stingrays still in the game on the scoreboard but they had many players well below the standard and once again lacking spark and leadership.
